In the middle of our Sherwood Lake project, we also made time to head down to Louisburg, KS to knock out some footing excavation for another customer!

We laid out and excavated the footings to get everything ready for the next phase of construction.

Whether it’s a large earthwork project or getting the groundwork ready for a new build, we’re always happy to keep the dirt moving!

The last part of our Sherwood Lake project in Topeka, KS had us trying our hand at a little actual landscaping!

We installed new edging around the customer’s front flower bed and backfilled the area with fresh river rock to give it a clean, finished look and get it back to the way it should be.

Another part of this project that I unfortunately failed to get before-and-after pictures of was removing a large, random berm in the customer’s backyard that was blocking the view of the lake from their pool. We cut the berm down, loaded and hauled the excess material off site, and finish graded the area to maintain proper drainage while opening up their view of the lake.

From excavation and drainage to shoreline work and a little landscaping, this was a fun project with a little bit of everything!

Another part of our recent project at Sherwood Lake in Topeka, KS was giving this customer’s shoreline a clean, finished look while also improving its long-term durability.

We started by leveling and prepping both sides of the shoreline, then installed geotextile fabric and limestone rock edging to create a defined border between the existing riprap shoreline and the yard. We finished by backfilling along the new limestone edging with smaller riprap, blending everything together for a natural, polished appearance.

The end result is a unique, durable shoreline that not only looks great but will help protect and define the property for years to come.

It’s been a few weeks since our last post, so we’ve got some catching up to do! We’ll be sharing several projects we’ve completed over the last few weeks.

We wrapped up an excavation and landscape project at Sherwood Lake in Topeka, KS at the end of last week. Here’s one part of the project. We excavated and prepped the area around the customer’s driveway culvert, then installed premium gray stone to create a clean, finished entrance that complements the property.

A little dirt work and the right material can make a big difference in curb appeal!

Thinking about building a pond?

One of the most common questions we hear is:

"When is the best time of year to build a pond?"

The answer might surprise you.

While many people immediately think spring, the reality is that soil conditions, moisture levels, and weather often play a bigger role than the calendar itself. In many cases, late summer and fall can provide some of the best conditions for excavation, dam construction, and compaction.

We recently published a new blog breaking down the pros and cons of building a pond during each season, including:

✔ Spring pond construction
✔ Summer pond construction
✔ Why fall is often ideal
✔ Winter construction opportunities
✔ How weather impacts compaction and long-term performance

If you're considering a pond project in the next year, this article can help you plan ahead and understand what to expect.

We wrapped up another successful pond restoration in Bonner Springs, KS yesterday, just before the rain rolled in!

Over the course of this project, we excavated approximately 4,400 cubic yards of silt and sediment from the pond, relocating the material to another area of the customer’s property where it can dry over the next year.

The transformation was incredible, and the customer was thrilled with the results. It’s always rewarding to help bring a pond back to life so it can be enjoyed for years to come.

If your pond has become shallow from years of silt buildup, KPS Excavation can help restore its depth, function, and appearance.

Has your pond become shallower over the years?

Are w**ds taking over areas that used to be open water?

You may not have a pond problem you may have a sediment problem.

Over time, silt, mud, and organic material slowly accumulate on the bottom of a pond. As that sediment builds up, ponds lose depth, water quality declines, algae becomes more common, and fish habitat can suffer.

We recently published a new blog covering the 7 most common signs your pond may need dredging, including:
✔ Loss of depth
✔ Excessive w**d growth
✔ Frequent algae blooms
✔ Declining fishing quality
✔ Expanding mud flats
✔ Reduced water storage capacity
✔ Sediment buildup after heavy rains

If your pond isn't performing like it used to, this article is a great place to start.
