Stop the Stake! We understand that cities require the stake and chain for newly planted trees. But we constantly see trees being strangled by that chain after they arenā€™t removed after the first growing season. The plastic chain can restrict growth, cause injuries, and trap moisture around a tree trunk. We advocate to not use them at all.

It gets a little crazy when youā€™re working on sidewalks. With hundreds of people walking by, large machinery, and closed sidewalks, it can be chaotic. But we love working and absorbing the energy of the city. Itā€™s always fun when people stop and curiously ask what we are doing. Usually protecting trees šŸ˜ƒ

We have started to install Rock Mulch around trees in Downtown Seattle. For the past decade, we have been using porous pave which is a mixture of rubber, rock and glue. But this mulch surface replaced the rubber and glue with a powdered binder.
