Sliman Mansour, a renowned Palestinian painter who chronicled over six decades of his country’s fight for liberation, has died in Jerusalem at age 79.
In 1994, he co-founded Al-Wasiti Art Centre in East Jerusalem, established to preserve Palestinian art and connect artists living in Palestine with those in exile and later joined the founding board of the International Academy of Art Palestine in Ramallah.
His work helped to shape a visual language for Palestinian identity, drawing repeatedly on the land and experiences of displacement and occupation, often using traditional embroidery and olive trees in his depictions.

SZ Team joins our friends at Studio.e Architecture and Metaamo Architecture in celebrating the Lummi Nation’s completion of Kwelengsen Ewxw (Eagle Haven Village).
Thank you Jan & Matt for touring us through and sharing more about the design of this inspiring community housing village.
‘Culturally-Centered, Permanent-Supportive Housing & Wellness w/ Wrap-Around Services’
The site layout was designed to foster connection between residents and is comprised of five clusters of six tiny houses each, with a small gathering space and fire pit in the center of each cluster. The clusters are arranged around a large central covered outdoor gathering space, where traditional salmon pit cookouts and other community events will be held. Other outdoor amenities include a community garden, a half basketball court and a nature walking path.
All the homes are built in a factory and delivered to the site mostly complete.

Storybrook Pond (aka Big Leaf Residence).
Surrounded by towering maple and pine trees, a babbling brook leading to a frog pond, the scene is set for an Artist’s studio and family home. The extensive transformation in Duvall, WA is rooted in connecting an open layout to its natural environment.
Large gable-end windows compliment a continuous 30’ ridge skylight, flooding the main living space with warm diffused light. An expansive kitchen opens to the dining area and is booked-ended by a living room with a stone wrapped fireplace. This great room connects to a large outdoor deck, bridging the garden views.
This home is designed to the specific programming needs of our client, allowing for a tranquil primary suite with a floating tub and custom sauna. Other amenities include a dog-washing mud room, hydraulic elevator, art studio space with a private deck overlooking the landscape, providing ample inspiration.
From elegant detailing to larger architectural concepts creating clear axes and open flow, this design offers a nod to the previous farmhouse home, while introducing a modern experience. A carefully curated material palette brings natural elements inside and out, with stone wrapped walls, natural finishes, warm textures and accents of wood throughout, blending into its surrounding landscape.
