Here’s a before and after of a kitchen remodel. These are original cabinets that the homeowner wanted refreshed. Not only did I sand and refinish the paint, I added trim to create a shaker style. I updated the hinges as the originals were fragile and not easily available. I would have hated to do all the work and have a hinge break and not be able to replace it. It created some challenges to make the changes but it was all very worth it. I also built the cabinet that is between the refrigerator and range. This gave them a large drawer for cooking utensils, a pull out garbage can and recycling, and a narrow cabinet that is great for cookie sheets and cutting boards.
Another part I tackled was reducing the size of the old soffit that likely had upper cabinets from a previous remodel. I added pendant lights there and above the sink, which needed an original, old built-in recessed light removed .
This is a great example of “Building Dreams Into Equity”. According to costvsvalue.com, midrange kitchen remodels can be a 113% return on your investment. However, there is a lot of gray area of what the real values can be. The most important thing, I find, is that you create a space that you want and enjoy!
