More than 100 planned power outages. Four sets of substations. One major effort to improve electrical reliability at MSP Airport.

The scope of this project includes electrically connecting four separate sets of electrical substations to provide greater redundancy throughout the airport in the event of power outages. This work includes the installation of new switchgear, along with retrofitting existing equipment in place.

A major part of this effort is the extensive outage planning required to complete the work safely. By completion, the project will have required more than 100 carefully planned and coordinated power outages to complete all work, testing, and commissioning.

An effort of this magnitude requires extensive coordination and teamwork, and we are extremely grateful for the dedication of the entire MSP Electric team. Strong communication and coordination between our 1st and 3rd shift crews have played an important role in keeping the project moving successfully.

This month, we're shining the spotlight on James Scharber and recognizing him for his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the electrical trade. James is someone who consistently shows up ready to work, takes pride in what he does, and is always willing to put in the effort to get the job done right.

When asked what people outside the industry might not realize about his job, James said it's the amount of patience it takes. Every project comes with its own challenges and taking the time to do the work safely and correctly is what leads to quality results.

Safety is something James takes seriously, and one habit
he never skips is stretching before the workday begins. It's a simple routine that helps prepare him for the physical demands of the job and sets the tone for a safe day on site.

When he's off the clock, you'll most likely find James on the water kayak fishing, enjoying the outdoors and making the most of his free time.

James's hard work, dedication, and commitment to safety make him a valued member of the MSP Electric team. We're proud to recognize his contributions and appreciate everything he does.

This month, we're recognizing Mike Deike as he celebrates two years with MSP Electric! 🌟

Mike has been a great addition to the team, bringing a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to doing the job right. He’s known for his clear communication, problem solving mindset, and ability to keep projects moving while building strong relationships with customers, contractors, and teammates.

With 18 years of experience in the electrical industry, Mike has developed a well-rounded knowledge of the trade. He graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology's Electrical Construction program and later returned to earn a degree in Electrical Design and Management, reflecting his dedication to continuing his education and growing his expertise.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and taking advantage of everything Minnesota has to offer. Whether it’s camping, snowmobiling, or riding ATVs, he enjoys making memories outdoors with the people who matter most.

Mike is an important part of the MSP Electric team, and we’re excited for the many more years to come.

Earlier this week marked an exciting milestone—MSP Electric turned 5! ⚡

Over the years, we've had the privilege of sponsoring and participating in golf tournaments that bring our community together. From supporting local organizations to connecting with customers and industry partners, these events have become one of our favorite parts of the year.

We're thankful for everyone who's been part of our first five years and look forward to many more opportunities to give back and build lasting relationships. ⛳

Thank you to our team at the MN Race For The Cure last Saturday! It turned out to be a beautiful day! And truly, a very special thank you to all those who donated towards our team!

The Race For The Cure event is incredibly inspiring! Not only is it a chance to support a very important cause, but also a chance to hear the amazing stories of survival and remembrance from those who honor people they have lost, all there to continue the message of the importance of research, early detection and support. Our team was very proud to be a part of the race again this year!

Austin Olson, the newest addition to our office team, brings over 12 years of experience in the electrical industry along with a degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance from Dakota County Technical College. He joins us as a Project Manager with a strong industry background and a clear enthusiasm for contributing to our team’s success.

Since coming on board, Austin has been quickly learning our processes, gaining familiarity with our projects, and building strong connections across the team. He has shown a great ability to absorb new information, ask the right questions, and apply what he’s learning in a meaningful way. Austin brings a fresh perspective, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude that will continue to support our team and strengthen our project management efforts. We’re excited to see how he grows and contributes moving forward.

Outside of work, Austin enjoys spending time outdoors and making memories with his family. His favorite activities include hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time on the lake. He and his wife have a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter and a yellow Labrador, who keep them busy and active year-round.

He ensures projects run smoothly, but what truly sets him apart is the way he supports and respects the people he works with. Over the years, Troy has built strong, lasting relationships at MSP Electric—connections he values deeply, and that makes day-to-day work more meaningful. To him, the MSP Electric team isn’t just a group of coworkers, it’s a family that celebrates both big wins and small victories together.
