Started our first construction mitigation install today. We were contacted by the homeowner to assess and provide a tree protection plan for their construction project. The fence is to contain all construction activities to a designated space and the wood chip is to reduce compaction and protect exposed roots. We still have plywood to install for vehicular traffic due to the grade and expected traffic. Once digging begins the area around the edges will be excavated with an air excavation tool to minimize damage to the critical root structure of the tree. Prior planning in construction projects is essential for the best out come for trees in the vicinity.

Spent the morning working on controlling (mowing) some invasive plant material today. Only had 3 hrs but cleared some multi floral rose, barberry, oriental bittersweet, wisteria vine and started on a big patch of bamboo. There is still much work to do to get this patch of bamboo under control but this was a good start.

The guys were hard at work this afternoon healing in our 3rd and 4th loads of trees. Beginning Monday we will dismantle today’s efforts and begin planting trees out in the community!
As disorganized as it all looks, there is a method to our madness. We take special efforts to group trees by project and by planed planting date so we handle the trees as little as possible. The trees will remain in wood chip to stabilize them and hold crucial moisture the trees need to survive while out of the ground.
Once we clear some space we will have at least three more loads to bring in.
Our clients seem to be excited to welcome their new trees and we love providing the service.
As always, please reach out for your tree care and planting needs!

An emotional week down south has come to an end. Such wide spread damage, such a variety of damage and so many good people. We used every skill we have, made up some as we went. These communities have been devastated, but are as resilient as anyone I know. Some cried, some laughed but everyone had a story to tell!
We would like to thank Mennonite Disaster Service for taking care of us while in NC, and for trusting us to do what we do best. Although we wish we could have stayed for a month, it’s good to be home and hug our families.
MDS will likely be in the area helping to continue the clean up efforts and help rebuild these communities for some time.
We would also like to thank Carl, Phil and Lue on-site from MDS. Phil your hospitality is second to none. Also Jake for joining us for the week and Matt (M&M), Kevin and the Virginia boy (sorry I’m terrible with names) for helping us on the last job of the week, of course the most technical, dangerous and complicated. All from our crew has returned safely and that is all we can ask for.

7am tomorrow (Sunday) morning our team will depart for a week of hurricane Helene relief work in North Carolina. We have teamed up with Mennonite disaster services (MDS) to provide assistance to the communities impacted by the storm. We have loaded all the equipment requested, gone through to insure all is in tip top condition and gathered all of the necessities for us to be productive for a week. We would like to thank our client family for the understanding and offers of support. Lauren will remain in the office handling thing on the home front and once we return we will get everyone back in the schedule.

Update: for those so inclined to donate funds please donate to MDS as they are the organization that will be caring for crews in the storm zone. They will have a greater impact with the funds provided. Thank you
