2018💛

2018 was a lot if I’m being honest. In my last semester of college, I took 21 hours (all for my major💀) and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Art & Entrepreneurship, Sum Cum Laude, from . That entire last semester was full of nothing but big art and business projects, and all of them were aimed at combining my love for photography and painting, and desire to create an art college business outside of art college (still working on this). It was face paced, high level learning, loooots of trial and error, but felt like good confirmation that this, being an artist and entrepreneur, is what I’m supposed to be doing.🎓

I had work in a few shows at Belmont in that last semester, made some of my best art at the time (& some of it is still my best to this day in certain ways), and went on a fun spring break trip to Northern Cali with my college bestie where we, you guessed it, viewed and created art. I literally just created my heart out and played with so many things while building an entire business plan and model for something I still hope to one day make a reality for months on end in 2018, and it was so much fun and such a wild adventure that I had not yet been on.🖼️

Post graduation, I moved back to Memphis, started nannying full-time (ya girl needed that moneyyy), moved downtown with my best friend, and started sloooowly building what is now EHS. I also finally got to see a sunflower field for the first time in my life (and since seeing Van Gogh’s Sunflower painting in London the summer before), and it was one of the most magical things I’ve ever experienced.🌻

Post graduation was kind of a big question mark of what do I next and how do I make it happen, and there was a looooot of nonsense that occurred all throughout 2018 that is not for the internet to know about, but I think I made all the right moves in that second half of 2018 to set myself up for what was to come next in my life. More on that next month (and for the rest of the months leading up to October)!🤪

Can’t believe in just one short month these two will be saying “I Do” (& that my team & I get to capture it in every! single! way!)😍📸🎞️🎥📱🌷✨

Also still not over the fact that I was flown to LA for their engagement session in November—just look at the magic we made!😮‍💨

2017💛

Looking back on 2017 really felt like the beginning of this entire last decade of my life (which makes sense, because it was lol). 2016 was the warm up, & 2017 was where the real magic began.✨

In 2017, I was 20 years old (for most of the year), & what an adventure of a year it was. I stepped more fully & confidently onto my path as an artist & entrepreneur, & really started chasing my dreams & getting confirmation that this was my path at every turn.🥰

Some 2017 highlights included:
–going on my first plane ride since middle school (a fun spring break trip to the Florida Keys with a group of friends + a one night adventure in Miami with )🌴
–getting accepted to & studying abroad for a month in the UK, Scotland, Ireland & Northern Ireland (my absolute number one dream trip at the time, & the trip where it was confirmed to me without a doubt that I am an artist & that this is my calling, & where two of my top 5 favorite days of my life occurred–more on these in a separate post one day)🌻✨
–seeing & capturing my first total solar eclipse🌞
–painting in oil paints for the first time ever & creating some really funny, large pieces (one of which actually hangs above my bed currently)🎨
–shooting my first portrait sessions & weddings (& getting paid for them what!)📸
–painting my first two commission paintings (& getting paid for them what!)🖼️
–being published for the first time in my life/career📖
–seeing both J Cole & Kendrick Lamar in concert🎧
–turning 21 on bid day for my sorority🥳

Even with all of that good, all of those dreams coming true, 2017 was not without its struggles. A friend died on my 21st birthday who was a pillar in the Memphis photography community. I was in a bad car accident right before my spring break trip. I was definitely still struggling hard with my mental health at times & family life, & I can see that written all over my face in many of these photos, but I did my best & made art & magic happen anyway.😭

I’m honestly shocked at all that I did in 2017, & how much of it shaped who & where I am today. If 20/21 year old Erica could see me now, I think she’d be really proud (& I know right now that I’m proud of her).💛
