True or false: wet drywall will dry on its own.

False. The surface dries first and hides what is behind it. The paper facing, the insulation and the wall cavity can hold moisture for weeks after the room feels perfectly normal again.

That gap between “looks dry” and “is dry” is where most of the calls we get were born.

How to reduce indoor humidity.

Mold needs moisture, and humid air is moisture everywhere at once. Keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent and most mold problems never get started.

Run the bath fan for 20 minutes after a shower, put a dehumidifier in the basement or laundry room, and fix small drips when you see them. A cheap hygrometer tells you if it is working.
