Parota is a wood that is all the rage right now. Enterolobium cyclocarpum (say that 5 times) is called Guanacaste in most Latin American countries where you can find it. It's also the national tree of many countries like Costa Rica. It's a softer hardwood, checking in at 700 janka hardness at best, which puts it on par with Cypress and Redwood, but don't let that scare you. Apply a good, hard finish and we've seen it stand up just fine with woods that are much harder. 2K Poly in Satin is our favorite here. Forgiving, easy to sand, easy to finish.

In the wood world, there is a term called Chatoyance or Chatoyancy. This indicates certain woods ability to have a 3-dimensional, shimmering effect that changes with the angle of view. If it wasn't for Chatoyance, no one would like Mahogany. Parota has a Chatoyance that's off the charts. Shimmering, glowing, it's literally like staring at Tiger Eye. Best of all, the trees grow fast, and BIG. We have Parota cookies that are 8' in diameter (you read that right). We have slabs of all sizes, dimensional lumber, and 12/4 shelf stock for thick, chunky shelves. Our Parota, depending on the cut, ranges from $12.00 a board foot to $15.00. Most outfits in the states are selling Parota in the $20-30.00 range. Not us! We ship anywhere in the states. If you're interested in making a dream table out of Parota, hit us up!

Freijo is another fun wood that you're not going to find many places at all! We source ours from Costa Rica. It's also called Jennywood, which, if you're a woodworker named Jenny, that's pretty darn cool. Freijo is Cordia Goeldiana, which puts it in the same family as Bocote. In fact, some in Central America call this Bocote too - which, sometime we'll talk about all the confusion amongst Latin American woods and names! It's an AWESOME wood. It's softer on the hardwood scale (800 Janka) putting it close to Cherry. Sands easy, looks amazing...and smells like a dream - it literally smells like a Cigar shop - a mix of Spanish Cedar and To***co.

We have Freijo in both 4/4 and 8/4 slabs small slabs (6-13" width), rough cut. Perfect for charcuterie boards, glue ups, small projects, epoxy tables and crafts, you name it! Thick floating shelves are all the rage in design right now, and we get a ton of requests for them. Often times, we end up ripping slabs down just to make them. We have a TON of awesome 3" thick Parota and Monkeypod shelf stock currently. Most of the boards are 12" wide and between 5-9' long. You could use them for a thin fireplace mantel, or for shelves. Per usual, the color and grain is awesome, classic Parota and Monkeypod. At 3" thick, you've got plenty of room to plane down and still have a solid 2.5"+ shelf. They are being sold at $12.00 a board foot.
