❄️ WINTER IS WINTERING - be prepared ❄️
Freezing temperatures can cause frozen and burst pipes - causing major water damage if your home isn’t prepared. Use these expert tips to protect your home 👇
🧊 PREVENT FROZEN PIPES
✔️ Keep your home thermostat above 55° during cold weather
✔️ Drip cold water at the faucet farthest from your main shut-off — moving water helps prevent pipes from freezing
✔️ Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
✔️ Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, garages, and other unheated areas
✔️ Open cupboards and vanities to allow warm air to reach plumbing
🔥 HOW TO THAW FROZEN PIPES
✔️ Turn off water immediately at the main shut-off valve
✔️ Open the faucet so water can flow as ice melts
✔️ Gently apply heat with a hair dryer or warm air
🚫 Never use open flames, blow torches, or kerosene heaters
✔️ Slowly turn water back on once thawed and check for leaks or cracks
⚠️ Leaks or pooling water often mean a pipe has burst.
