People often don't realize that gutters are an important part of your roofing system. Gutters do more than keep rain off your head - they're one of your home's first lines of defense against water damage.

And if your gutters look anything like this... it's probably time for a cleaning. 👀

When gutters become clogged with leaves, dirt, and debris, rainwater has nowhere to go. Instead of flowing safely away from your home, it can overflow and cause problems you may not notice right away.

Clogged gutters can lead to:

🌱 Erosion around your foundation

If shingle corners or tabs can be lifted easily by hand, the seal may be failing.

Loose shingles can lead to:
• Wind damage
• Water intrusion
• Premature roof aging

Catching small roofing problems early can help prevent much larger repairs later.

Moss on your roof isn’t just cosmetic.
Here in the PNW, it’s one of the biggest causes of premature roof wear.

If you’ve noticed it creeping in, you’re definitely not alone - it’s extremely common here.

The good news: catching it early makes a huge difference.

Moss holds moisture against shingles like a sponge. Over time, that moisture can:
• Lift shingle edges
• Let water seep underneath
• Lead to leaks, rot, and costly repairs

QUITE SIMPLY:
Moss isn’t just sitting on your roof - it’s slowly working its way underneath it.

EARLY WARNING SIGNS:
• Green patches or streaks (especially on north-facing slopes)
• Thick, fuzzy growth along shingle edges
• Dark streaking (algae that can lead to moss)
• Debris buildup in valleys

PREVENTION TIPS:
• Keep roofs clear of leaves and debris
• Trim overhanging branches to allow sunlight in
• Clean gutters regularly
• Schedule periodic roof inspections

WHAT NOT TO DO:
• Don’t pressure wash shingles (it removes protective granules)
• Don’t ignore it once it starts spreading
• Don’t DIY harsh chemical treatments w/o understanding the risks
