WARNING- FREEZE DAMAGE! Here are a few precautions you can take before freezing weather arrives;
1. Make sure hoses are disconnected from outside hose bibs and covers installed. If you have shut-off valves inside your home for exterior hydrants, shut them off and open up the outside hydrants and drain the water. Close the hydrant before you cover them.
2. Make sure to heat any home or building that has exposed plumbing and insulate any piping exposed to outside air or freezing temperatures.
3. Open any sink cabinets that are on an exterior wall of your home. This allows heat to get to your piping.
4. During hard freeze let your faucets run with a very small stream/ drip of water from both hot and cold sides. This will keep water moving and minimize the chance of freezing. Monitor so water doesn’t overflow.
5. Heat up storage areas or garage safely that have exposed piping.
6. If your house has a crawlspace, close off some of the exterior vents that are closest to water pipes.
We hope this will help you minimize property damage during our next freeze.
