When we asked which option would you pick to build between an off grid cabin, barndominium, and a lake house, the top choice was a lake house! That’s the best choice in the summer 😎

In Stephens County, we mulched about 2.5 acres in Bray, Oklahoma near Duncan. Our client needed the area cleaned up for construction of a new Airbnb! We did some selective mulching and left the larger trees as requested. What a difference!

Check out this article on the best approaches to controlling tick population on your property!

👉Mulching and removing those invasive eastern red cedars is one way to control tick population. Don’t give those ticks a shady humid area to thrive in!

👉Ticks also love the overgrown pastures and wild bushy areas. Routine brush hogging or forestry mulching will keep tick population down.

“Good pasture management, brush control, and habitat management are often just as important as the treatment itself.”

Great information Ty Hunter - Arrowhead Land Company! Thank you!

TICKS ARE BAD THIS YEAR. WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS?

Every rancher I talk to seems to be fighting ticks right now. While there isn’t a silver bullet, the producers having the most success are usually combining several strategies rather than relying on a single product.

Here are a few proven approaches:

• Rotate your pour-ons and insecticides. Using the same product year after year can reduce effectiveness.

• Treat cattle before infestations become severe. It’s much easier to stay ahead of ticks than it is to catch up.

• Control eastern redcedar and excessive brush. Ticks thrive in shaded, humid environments.

• Maintain healthy grazing pressure. Overgrown grass and neglected areas often become tick hotspots.

• Consider prescribed burning where appropriate and safe. Fire can significantly reduce tick habitat.

• Keep deer traffic in mind. Deer are one of the primary hosts responsible for spreading ticks across a property.

• Work with your veterinarian to develop a tick and parasite management plan specific to your operation.

The reality is that effective tick control starts long before you ever open a bottle of pour-on. Good pasture management, brush control, and habitat management are often just as important as the treatment itself.

What has worked best on your ranch this year?
