After 30 years in the trade I got tired of handing the bank interest on every truck and piece of equipment I bought. So I started being my own bank: I borrow from my own savings and pay myself back with interest, so the interest stays in my pocket.

Everybody watches the roof. The ground is where the money goes.

A roof leak shows up on the ceiling the first hard rain. You see it, you fix it, and insurance usually helps.

Water at the foundation is quiet. It soaks in year after year, rots sills and floor joists, pushes walls in, and grows mold under your feet. By the time you notice a soft floor or a crack, it's been costing you for years, and homeowners insurance won't touch it.

Rafters are a lot cheaper to replace than floor joists.

Already been given a quote on your foundation or your wet basement?

Bring it to me. I'll come look for free and tell you what's actually causing it. If I think you don't need the work somebody told you that you need, I'll tell you that too, and it won't cost you anything. I've done it.

I don't have salesmen. The man who prices your job is the man who will be in the hole doing it. We take the water off at the outside of the wall and carry it away below the footer, so it stops where it starts instead of getting collected after it's already in your house. Fix the cause, not just the symptom.

My warranty is in writing and it goes to the next owner of the house.

Straight talk: body damage down one side and the front corner from a jackknife, so it needs metal work, and the back doors need hinge work. Foundation wall over at Vanceburg. The old block was done - cracked, pushed in, and nothing between it and the water. We dug it out, rebuilt the wall with steel and grout filled block, tied the corner back in, then wrapped it the way it should be: dimple board, drain tile in washed gravel, piped to daylight, backfilled and seeded back.

Fix the cause, not just the symptoms. If your basement waterproofing company aren't masons, they aren't qualified to rebuild your wall.
