We are seeing a couple of concerns right now!
1. Bagworms-these are usually on evergreens but we have seen them in Japanese maples and other evergreen neighboring trees and shrubs. They work fast and can devastate their host plant. (Attached is a picture of affected plant and a bag worm in its bag.)
2. Leaf Hoppers-these are tiny insects that can be seen when walking in your lawn. They jump from the grass when you step. You can barely see them except when you walk and even then you have to be looking. They will feed on your grass causing it to yellow, be spotted, and or cause it to look like it is in drought stress.

Crape Myrtle Bark Scale Alert!
Noticed white, waxy clusters on the bark of your crape myrtles? You may be dealing with Crape Myrtle Bark Scale—a stubborn insect pest that weakens your trees and causes black sooty mold.

What to Do:
✅ Gently scrub bark with a soft brush and mild soap to remove scale and mold
✅ Apply a systemic insecticide in early spring (look for products with imidacloprid or dinotefuran)
✅ Encourage beneficial insects like ladybugs that feed on scale
✅ Avoid over-fertilizing—scale loves high nitrogen!
