“No Wasted Space”

These clients kept the same footprint of their former kitchen, but greatly improved the functionality with some creative design solutions. The design features used to accomplish this include:

-36” high wall cabinets replaced 30” high cabinets
-A 30” deep wall cabinet over the refrigerator replaced a 12” deep cabinet
-Removed a blind corner and added two, 32” diameter lazy susans
-Inserted a 6” pull-out accessory instead of using a filler
-Utilized two toe kick drawers

The two piece crown molding added a beautiful finishing touch.
Cabinets: Brighton Cabinetry, Amesbury door style; “Downy”, painted maple finish

Countertop: Cambria, “Bellingham”

Decorative Hardware: Jeffrey Alexander “Roman”

Appliances: Gerrit’s Appliance in Wyoming

Installation: Visscher Construction

“It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor…”

These clients are my neighbors. The best part of this project - instead of a cordial smile and flippant “Hi” we will now stop and talk for a bit when out and about walking in the hood. Their friendly dogs are happy to see me!

Stunning Lakeside Transformation

I would like to take full credit for the drastic transformation of this kitchen, however, the clients supplied a great deal of the general design ideas. They made excellent lighting selections and many other choices to add style to the space and to other areas of the home. I worked with them to finesse the details of the design and bring their ideas to life. They also had an excellent contractor.

Of Note:

-Besides the stunning lake view through three sliding glass doors off the open dining area, the shining jewel of this kitchen is the Cambria quartz countertop in the popular “Portrush” design. Its blue veining and gold accents coordinate perfectly with the custom paint island cabinetry color (Sherwin Williams – Naval). The gold is repeated in the decorative hardware, faucet, pot filler, and range k***s. The stunning design continues as a focal point on the backsplash.

-A built-in pantry was created in the corner for much-needed storage.

-The wall that housed the refrigerator was reduced to a half wall and the refrigerator location was moved. This visually opened up the space to the staircase and this created the aisleway outside of the main kitchen work area.

-The window on one wall was removed. This allowed wall space for the 48” wide gas range and the new location of the refrigerator.

-On the sink window wall, we were able to sneak in a 13” deep X 33” wide tall pantry cabinet to provide more storage. The special angled base cabinet to the left of the dishwasher provides a nice transition to the tall pantry cabinet. This cabinet allows easy access, while not impeding the walkway.

-The island was purposefully designed without a sink or cooktop, as the homeowners frequently have large gatherings and they enjoy the uninterrupted space for buffet use.

I had a great time getting to know these warm and friendly clients. Sometime early-on in the process, the clients told me the reason they chose me/Fresh Start Cabinetry. They had been reviewing various business's websites. There is a statement on the FSC website in the "Why Choose Us" section regarding communication that reads, "I will return your contact. If you have not heard back from me either there is a technical glitch, I have had a personal emergency, or I have died." One of the homeowners remarked something close to, "I thought to myself, "That person has a sense of humor. That's my kind of person. I can work with that". " :). She was the second client, possibly the third, to indicate that was the reason for choosing FSC.

To the clients: I've already told you this, but thank you for entrusting Fresh Start Cabinetry with your project. Thank you for being so easygoing.

“Move Those Walls!”

This is one of my all-time favorite remodeling projects.

The clients wanted to open up their space and increase their amount of storage. They knew they wished to remove the walls separating the former corridor kitchen from the living and dining rooms. It then became a puzzle to incorporate all the necessary elements into a cohesive, functional space.

Many school buildings have multi-purpose “café-gym-atoriums”. Well, this home now boasts the five-purpose “pantry-laundry-mudroom-coffee bar-a-micro-room”. Three fragmented closets, one housing a side by side washer and dryer, one for coats and storage, and one for a food pantry were combined with a former storage space in the garage to create one large room. This new area houses the stacked washer and dryer, storage space, a coffee bar, a seating & coat area, and the microwave.

The refrigerator and double pull-out tall pantry were bumped out into the garage to accommodate the needed depth. This gave this wall a clean, built-in look.

The homeowners now have ample space and were able to move many items they had previously been storing in their basement to the more convenient kitchen location.

It was a long process, but the clients are thrilled with the results and have been showing off their renovations for months now. They entertain often and are now able to gather around the large island and interact while cooking instead of being separated from guests.

These clients were awesome! They were super-friendly, positive, and embraced the detailed design ideas.

Please see the before and after floor plan images for more details regarding the changes.

Project Summary:
