Recent tornadoes and high winds have reminded us why the structural details of a building matter. While some builders use columns made from multiple boards fastened together, we use solid .60 CCA treated 6x6 posts. A solid post provides a continuous structural member from the ground to the roof with no splice joints or seams. During extreme wind events, that continuous load path helps transfer forces more directly though the structure. The photo shows two buildings that sit on the same property and experienced the same storm. The R.C. Building was constructed with solid 6x6 posts and sustained only minor damage. The other building was constructed with spliced columns and suffered severe structural damage. While every building failure involves many factures these photos show why we believe the strength of the solid 6x6 post matters. That's one of the reasons we've continued to build with solid posts for over 50 years.
