Happy National Surveyors Week! This week we celebrate the dedicated land surveyors across Michigan who help shape, define, and protect the boundaries of our communities every day. From infrastructure and development to property rights and mapping our landscape, surveyors play a vital role in building and maintaining the places where we live and work.
Did you know that 3 of the 4 presidents on Mount Rushmore were land surveyors earlier in their careers? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln all worked as surveyors before becoming President of the United States. Theodore Roosevelt is generally considered the only non-surveyor among the four, though some surveying professionals note that his exploratory mapping work shares similar roots.
To all of Michigan’s surveyors, thank you for your precision, professionalism, and dedication to the profession. Your work truly helps lay the foundation for the future.
