Thinking about a kitchen renovation or adding that new addition this summer? You might have noticed that things are looking a bit different in the world of electrical work lately!
As of April 24, 2026, the new Massachusetts Electrical Code is officially in effect. We know that "code changes" might sound like a headache, but these updates are all about making your home safer and more efficient. Here are a few big things you should know:
- Outdoor Service Disconnects: New rules usually require an emergency disconnect on the outside of your home. This gives first responders a safe way to cut power quickly if there’s ever an emergency.
- Kitchen Islands & Counters: The requirements for where and how many outlets you need on your island have changed to help prevent accidents with dangling cords.
- Expanded Safety Protection: We’re seeing more requirements for AFCI and GFCI protection across the home to keep your family safe from electrical fires and shocks.
Keeping up with these changes is what we do best. If you're planning a project, you don't need to be a code expert: that’s our job! We’re here to make sure your electrical systems are smooth, proper, and safe from the very start.
