Marshall Garden Company

Marshall Garden Company At the Marshall Garden Company, we help people grow as gardeners — one person, one plant, one porch at a time.

Our garden center is set to open January 2027 so follow along as we work towards opening.

Some plants are common.

Some plants are conversation starters. 🌿

These rare beauties rolled into the shop this week.

Which ones would you take home? Lol… I mean they are for sale.

While everyone else is thinking about surviving summer, I’m already planning for fall tomatoes.

Today’s job: tomato cuttings.

I don’t trust a plant unless the bees approve. 🐝

And judging by these Black-Eyed Susans, the bees have made their decision.

There’s something I love about native plants. Year after year they show up, bloom their hearts out, and bring the garden to life without asking for much in return.

The bees know.

And gardeners who’ve planted them usually end up wanting more.

So tell me…

🐝 Team Native Plants: plants that feed pollinators and support local wildlife

🌸 Team Pretty Flowers: if it’s beautiful, you’re planting it

Which team are you on?

(I’m guessing a lot of us are both. 😉)

Marshall Floodmageddon 2026 🌧️🍅

My bestie called and said her plants were floating down the driveway….

Maybe we can call that hydroponics🤣😎heheheheh

Roll call:
Who lost mulch?
Who lost tomatoes?
And who suddenly owns waterfront property?

Smile gardeners….. keep smiling. And in the morning when you go look at your plants, don’t throw in towel💚

Keep going.
Keep growing.

Yesterday evening we had wonderful, productive talks with incredible plant vendors (hands down some of the best in the state)

Hours later we were still at the table… budgets open, inventory lists flying, trying to figure out what actually makes sense to bring into a brand new, small business.

And I’ll be honest… this part is harder than it looks from the outside.

Because every plant and product decision sounds simple until you’re debating money, space, turns, timing and your name’s being on the line.

The right mix and everything starts to feel possible.

The wrong mix and you’re stuck with perishable plants that don’t move.

We’re working through all of it in real time and I think that’s the part people don’t always see.

But I’m curious….

What do you think is the hardest part about starting a small local business like this?
