🌱✂️ Think Cutting Your Grass Short Means Mowing Less? Think Again!

It may seem like a shortcut, but giving your lawn a super-short haircut can actually create more problems—not less mowing. 👀

When grass is cut too short, it can become stressed and have a harder time handling heat, drought, and other lawn pressures.

🌿 Cutting Too Short Can:
• Stress the grass and slow recovery
• Make your lawn more vulnerable to heat and drought
• Reduce the leaf surface needed to produce energy
• Allow more sunlight to reach the soil, encouraging w**ds
• Leave your lawn looking thin and unhealthy

✂️ So What's Better?
Stick with consistent mowing and follow the one-third rule: try not to remove more than one-third of the grass blade at a time.

And don't wait until the grass gets extremely tall before giving it a dramatic trim. Regular mowing at an appropriate height is much easier on your lawn.

🌱 A healthy lawn isn't about keeping it as short as possible—it's about giving the grass what it needs to grow strong.

💧🌱 Myth: Watering Your Lawn Every Day Is Best

It might seem like more water means a healthier lawn—but watering every day isn't always the best approach. 👀

🌱 Your lawn needs deep, healthy roots, and constantly giving it small amounts of water can encourage shallow root growth. That can leave grass more vulnerable to heat, drought, and stress.

💧 Instead of watering a little every day:
• Water deeply enough to moisten the soil about 4–6 inches down
• Allow the soil to dry slightly between watering
• Pay attention to rainfall and weather conditions
• Water in the morning when possible to reduce evaporation

🔎 How can you tell if you've watered deeply enough?
Try pushing a screwdriver or similar tool into the soil after watering. If it can easily reach 4–6 inches, the water has penetrated deep enough to reach much of the grass's active root zone.

📏 A good general goal is about 1 inch of water per week, including rainfall, although your lawn's needs can vary based on soil, grass type, weather, and other conditions.

🌿 The goal isn't to water more—it's to water deeper and smarter.

🐛🌱 What’s Happening Beneath Your Lawn? Some Insects Target the Roots

When you think about lawn pests, you probably picture insects feeding on the grass blades. But some pests can cause damage below the surface, where your grass roots are working to absorb water and nutrients. 👀

🌱 Which Insects Actually Target the Roots?

🪲 Grubs
Grubs are the larvae of beetles and are one of the most common lawn pests that feed directly on grass roots. As they feed, they can weaken the root system and cause sections of turf to thin, brown, or die.

🐛 Other Lawn Pests
Not every lawn insect is a root feeder. Chinch bugs, sod webworms, and armyworms primarily damage the grass above the soil rather than feeding directly on the roots.

🔎 Signs of Possible Root Damage:
• Brown or thinning patches
• Grass that lifts easily from the soil
• Weak or shallow-looking turf
• Areas that don't seem to improve with proper watering
• Wildlife digging through the lawn looking for grubs

📞 When Should You Call Us?
If you're seeing unexplained brown patches, thinning grass, or turf that lifts easily, give us a call. These can be signs of a pest problem, and identifying the cause is the first step toward protecting your lawn.

🌿 Healthy grass starts with healthy roots. Let our lawn care team help protect your lawn from the ground up!

🐛🌱 Could Armyworms Be Damaging Your Lawn? Here’s What to Know

Unfortunately, they can cause some serious damage. 👀

Armyworms are caterpillars that feed on grass blades, and when populations are high, they can move through a lawn quickly and leave behind large areas of chewed, thinning, or brown turf.

🔎 What Should You Look For?
• Brown or thinning patches that seem to appear quickly
• Grass blades that look chewed or ragged
• Areas of lawn that suddenly look stressed
• Caterpillars crawling through the grass
• Increased bird activity as birds search for them

🐛 Why Are They Called Armyworms?
When food becomes scarce, large numbers can move together from one area to another, giving them their “army” nickname.

🌱 Can They Destroy Your Lawn?
A heavy infestation can cause significant turf damage, especially when the caterpillars are actively feeding. The good news is that catching the problem early can help limit the damage.

📞 When Should You Call Us?
If you notice brown patches appearing suddenly, chewed-looking grass, or caterpillars in your lawn, don't wait for the damage to spread. Give our lawn care team a call so we can help identify what's happening and determine the appropriate treatment.

Your lawn shouldn't have to fight an army alone. 😉🌱

🪱🌱 Think You Might Have Sod Webworms? Here's What to Look For

Seeing small brown patches popping up in your lawn? 👀 It could be sod webworms.

Sod webworms are the caterpillar stage of lawn moths. While the adult moths aren’t the problem, their larvae can feed on grass blades and cause noticeable damage.

🔎 Signs of Sod Webworms:
• Small brown or thinning patches
• Grass that looks chewed or ragged
• Damage that starts small and gradually spreads
• Small moths flying low over the lawn when disturbed
• Birds spending more time feeding in affected areas

🌱 Why Do They Matter?
As the larvae feed, they can weaken and thin your turf. Heavy infestations can leave larger areas of damaged or bare grass.

📞 When Should You Call Us?
If you notice unexplained brown or thinning patches that aren't improving with proper watering, or you see small moths repeatedly flying around your lawn, it may be time to have the area checked.

The sooner you identify what's causing the damage, the sooner you can determine the right solution.

🌿 Not sure what's happening to your lawn? Give our lawn care team a call—we'll help get to the root of the problem!

🐞🌱 Chinch Bugs: Tiny Bugs, Big Damage

They’re tiny, but the damage they can cause to your lawn can be anything but small! 👀

Chinch bugs feed on grass and can cause serious turf damage by removing moisture and nutrients from grass plants. Their feeding can leave behind stressed, thinning, or dying turf.

🔎 Signs to Watch For:
• Yellow or brown patches that seem to spread
• Grass that looks wilted or stressed
• Thinning or dying turf, especially during hot, dry weather
• Small insects moving through the grass when you look closely

☀️ Chinch bugs thrive in hot, dry conditions, and their damage can sometimes look like ordinary drought stress.

📞 When Should You Call Us?
If your lawn develops unexplained brown or yellow patches, the damage continues to spread, or watering doesn’t seem to help, it’s time to give us a call. Early identification can help prevent a small pest problem from turning into larger areas of damaged turf.

🌱 Don’t wait until the damage takes over. Let our lawn care team help identify the problem and determine the right treatment for your lawn.

🪲 Think You Might Have Grubs in Your Lawn? Here's What to Know. 🌱

You may not see them, but there could be tiny pests working underneath your lawn right now.

Grubs are the immature, worm-like larvae of beetles. They live in the soil and feed on grass roots—and that's where they can become a big problem for your lawn.

🌱 They Damage Grass Roots
As grubs feed below the surface, they can weaken the root system your grass depends on for water and nutrients.

🍂 They Can Cause Brown Patches
As root damage increases, grass can begin to thin, discolor, and eventually die.

🦝 They Attract Hungry Wildlife
Skunks, raccoons, and birds may dig through your lawn looking for grubs, creating even more damage.

🌿 Damage Can Spread
A small grub problem can turn into larger areas of stressed or damaged turf if left unchecked.

👀 What Should You Look For?

Watch for unexplained brown patches, grass that lifts easily from the soil, or increased digging activity from wildlife.

The best way to protect your lawn is to stay ahead of grub problems with proper lawn care and timely treatments.

🌱 Spot Treating vs. Whole Lawn Treatments: Which Is Right for Your Lawn?

When w**ds start showing up, you may wonder why some lawns need individual spot treatments while others benefit from a treatment across the entire lawn.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

🎯 Spot Treatments Work Best When:
• You only have a few isolated w**ds
• The majority of your lawn is healthy and w**d-free
• The problem is limited to a small area
• You want to target specific w**ds without treating the entire lawn

🌿 Whole Lawn Treatments Work Best When:
• Weeds are scattered throughout multiple areas of your lawn
• You're dealing with a widespread w**d problem
• Multiple types of w**ds are present
• You want more consistent control across the entire lawn

🛡️ And here's the important part:
Just because you don't see w**ds everywhere doesn't necessarily mean they're not there. Different w**ds emerge at different times, and some problems can develop before they're easy to spot.

That's why timing and consistency matter when it comes to lawn w**d control.

The goal isn't simply to chase w**ds as they appear. It's to keep your turf healthy and use the right treatment approach for the conditions in your lawn. 🌱

Not sure which approach your lawn needs?

📞 Our lawn care team can take a look and recommend the best treatment strategy for your yard!

🌿 Why Do Weeds Keep Coming Back? 🌿

You pull them. You treat them. You think they're gone… and then suddenly, there they are again! 😩🌱

So why are w**ds so hard to keep away?

🌬️ They Spread Seeds
Many w**ds produce tons of seeds that can remain in the soil and sprout when conditions are right.

🌱 Roots Can Be Stubborn
Some w**ds have deep or spreading root systems, making them difficult to completely eliminate.

🍃 Weak Grass Leaves Room for Weeds
Thin or bare areas in your lawn give w**ds an open invitation to move in.

☀️ Stress Gives Weeds an Advantage
Heat, drought, poor soil conditions, and nutrient deficiencies can weaken your grass and make it easier for w**ds to compete.

🗓️ Weeds Don't All Show Up at the Same Time
Different w**ds emerge throughout the season, which means controlling them often requires more than a one-time treatment.

🌱 The Best Long-Term Strategy?

Build a healthy, thick lawn and stay ahead of the w**ds.

Proper fertilization, watering, mowing, and a consistent w**d control program can help your grass stay strong while keeping unwanted plants under control.

If you're tired of seeing the same w**ds come back year after year, our lawn care team can help develop a plan for a healthier, greener lawn.
