SIU Carbondale will celebrate 75 years of Saluki pride during Homecoming Oct. 12–17, bringing concerts, a carnival, a parade and football to campus and the Strip.
This year’s theme, “Decades of the Dawg: 75 Years of Saluki Pride,” honors SIU’s adoption of the Saluki mascot in 1951.
Festivities kick off Monday, Oct. 12, with King Tut’s Pep Rally at 4:30 p.m. at Faner Plaza. The community is invited for free food, a live DJ, guest speakers and the homecoming court announcement.
The Saluki Carnival Block Party returns Thursday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. on Lincoln Drive in front of Pulliam Hall, featuring free admission, carnival rides, games and live entertainment. Food vendors will offer refreshments for purchase.
On Friday, Oct. 16, the Homecoming Music Street Festival begins at 3 p.m. on the Strip with two stages, Spin Doctors, North Mississippi Allstars and more. KYLE will perform at the Homecoming After-Party at 10 p.m.
Saturday’s parade begins at 10 a.m. at East Mill Street, traveling along Illinois Avenue onto campus. Tailgating follows on Saluki Row from noon to 3 p.m., ahead of SIU’s game against Illinois State, televised on ESPNU.
