Forty feet above a beech-maple forest, a wooden boardwalk loops through branches most visitors only ever see from below. The Canopy Walk at Blacklick Woods Metro Park in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, carries you roughly 660 feet through the treetops, past maple, beech, red oak, swamp white oak, elm, and shagbark hickory. You can climb 72 zigzag steps to reach it, or ride the elevator tower, which makes the walk accessible to wheelchair users and anyone with limited mobility. An observation platform above the tower rises higher still, topping out at 55 feet.
Three rope bridges, each about 20 feet long, punctuate the loop, and a cargo net holds up to five people for anyone who wants to lie back and watch the leaves move. A treehouse offers shade, climbing apparatus, and a fireman's pole. Feeders stocked with thistle, sunflower seed, and suet draw woodpeckers, nuthatches, and warblers within easy view. The walk opened in May 2024 inside the oldest park in the central Ohio Metro Parks system, a 652-acre preserve that also holds a buttonbush swamp, a nature center, and trails linking to the Blacklick Creek Greenway. Admission is free. Have you visited the Blacklick Woods Metro Park Canopy Walk?
