Aerations continue next week and you keep hearing aerations thin the thatch layer, but what is thatch? Thatch is organic material that builds up between your actual grass blades and soil. It acts like a sponge, absorbing nutrients and water before they can reach the soil and the grass roots. De thatching a lawn can be beneficial, but only if you pick up and discard all the thatch that is kicked up. One of the best ways to keep a thatch layer thin, is by aerating EVERY fall.

Welp, today’s heavy rain settled it. I just can’t wait till October to do the aerations this year. This weather is just way too perfect to not get out there and poke some holes. Aerations will start next week. Call, text, or message asap if you are not currently scheduled for the fall aeration.

Finishing up the 4th treatments today and the 5th and final application will not be till October-ish. A lot can happen from now until then, so please keep in contact with me should any problems arise. If you’re on the full 5 step program, w**d sprays in between treatments are at no charge so let me know if you get some pop ups. Most importantly, this is around the time grub damage will start showing up. If you have brown areas in your yard, it’s more than likely heat stress, but could be grubs. Check often by grabbing the brown grass and trying to pull it up. If you have grubs, the grass will pull up like sod, the soil will be pulverized, and you will see white grub worms. The quicker I can get them taken care of, the better chance the lawn can recover before winter. Thanks for a great season so far guys, and keep spreading the word of Matt’s Lawncare!!

Today starts the 4th application and this treatment will give the grass one last dose of food before drought season. I know it already feels like that has been going on most of the year, but keep your fingers crossed we get a good fall this year. Along with your invoice, you will be receiving a flyer to promote my fall core aeration. I urge all my customers to take advantage of this crucial service. Aerations typically start in October, but get on the schedule now! Aeration should be performed every fall and will help keep your thatch layer thin, prevent fungus and disease, as well as keeping the soil loose. If you receive a flyer, that means you are NOT currently scheduled for the fall core aeration.
