Pontotoc Ductwork Replacement, Part 2: New Duct Runs and Final Connections
In Part 1 we pulled out the old ductwork on this Pontotoc home. This week we finished the job by connecting the existing Amana package unit to all new ductwork.
Package units sit outside, so every foot of duct between the unit and the house matters. Old, leaky, or crushed duct means you pay to cool air that never reaches your rooms. We ran new insulated flex duct for both supply and return from the unit's connections, through the foundation and into the crawlspace. Every joint at the unit transition was sealed with duct mastic, not just tape. Tape dries out and lets go over time. Mastic stays put.
Under the house, we hung the supply runs from the floor joists with strapping. That keeps them off the v***r barrier and pulled straight. Flex duct that sags or kinks chokes off airflow, and that is one of the most common reasons one room never gets comfortable.
The unit itself was still in good shape, so the homeowner kept it. New ductwork let them get better airflow without paying for a whole new system.
