Texas recently updated its HVAC standards. What does that mean for you?
As of September 1, 2026, Texas updated the building and safety standards HVAC contractors follow when installing and replacing heating and cooling systems.
For homeowners: your HVAC system needs to be installed correctly, safely and according to current requirements.
These standards cover things like proper drainage, electrical connections, equipment placement and clearances, ventilation, accessibility for future service, and other important safety requirements.
*****Many of these HVAC installation and safety requirements are not new and have been standard practice for years.
What changed September 1, 2026 is that Texas updated the editions of the codes referenced in the state’s HVAC rules from the 2021 editions to the 2024 editions.
Depending on where you live, your city may also have its own permitting and inspection requirements.
At New Generation Air, we stay up to date with current requirements so you don’t have to worry about the technical side. Our job is to make sure your installation isn’t just cooling your home—it’s done the right way.
