Check out these photos of a recent deck remodel we completed!
This 26' × 12' deck presented a unique challenge. Since composite decking is generally only available in lengths up to 20 feet, we needed a way to finish the deck without visible butt joints where two boards meet.
Our solution was to install two breaker boards through the center of the deck along with a picture frame border around the perimeter. This allowed us to use 12-foot deck boards to create clean, continuous sections on both sides of the breaker boards, eliminating the need for butt joints and giving the deck a much cleaner finished appearance.
To support this layout, we installed new joists and blocking beneath the breaker boards and picture frame. We also installed new surface-mounted structural guardrail posts and a new railing system.
For the finished materials, we used Trex Toasted Sand decking and matching fascia, along with Deckorators Contemporary vinyl railings featuring black aluminum balusters.
We're very happy with how this project turned out, and the homeowners now have a beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor space to enjoy for years to come.
