Tiny House Tuesday! 🌿🏡
Yes, I made that up, but fun fact...did you know my husband and I designed and built a tiny house? I've shared photos of it before, but never really delved into the story, so I'll try to make this short & sweet 🫣
The dream started several years ago when we were living in our split-level home in Cedar Falls and decided we wanted an adventure to take on together. And boyyy did we get one 😂
Designing and building the tiny itself was a long process, but we quickly learned that finishing the house was only part of the adventure. Finding the land, getting the site prepped, actually MOVING the tiny house (still a little crazy to think about 😅), and eventually adding the firepit, shed, deck, and landscaping became a whole other project.
But seeing it all come together has made every bit of it worth it.
My husband and I are both very outdoorsy, nature-loving people, so we wanted the tiny to feel like a place to slow down, unplug, and feel connected to its surroundings. That became a huge inspiration behind the design too... soft greens, rusty earth tones, natural wood, and lots of texture pulled straight from the colors around us.
At only about 300 sq. ft., every inch had to have a purpose. It’s even set up to be on- or off-grid compatible, composting toilet and all 😎
This little house has been such a labor of love, a giant learning experience, and probably one of the projects that has influenced me most as a designer. It taught me just how much you can do with a small footprint when every detail is intentional, and it continues to be one of my favorite places to dream up new ideas 🤎
So I figured it was about time I finally shared a little more of its story!
