Recently, we lost a man whose impact on our family is difficult to put into words.
Professionally, he was our electrician. Personally, he was so much more than that.
Anyone who has built a home with us, remodeled a kitchen, added an addition, renovated a bathroom, or worked on just about any project over the last four decades likely knew John LaRochelle. His father worked alongside our dad in the early years, and I still remember being in high school when John’s dad brought him over to our house for the first time to introduce us to his son, who would be joining the family business.
That was back in the late 1900s—yes, that sounds funny to say now.
Fast forward through thousands of projects, countless job sites, and decades of friendship, and John became one of the constants in our lives. His phone number is permanently etched in my memory. If there was a project happening, chances are John and his crew were a part of it.
Over the years, our relationship grew far beyond work. John and his family became clients when they purchased our spec home on Azalea Court—a home his family still cherishes today. He also took our brother Steve under his wing, giving him an opportunity straight out of Cheney Tech. Steve remains part of that company today, a testament to the loyalty, mentorship, and generosity that John showed to so many people.
When you’ve known someone for more than 40 years, the memories become impossible to separate from the story of your own life. John was a part of ours. Through the busy days, the challenging projects, the laughs, the problem-solving, the countless phone calls and electrical walk throughs (boy could he spend your money quickly lol) , he was simply always there.
John, thank you. Thank you for your partnership, your friendship, your dedication, your loyalty, and your unwavering presence in our lives.
You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever appreciated.
