FilzFelt We sell felt. FilzFelt carries German-milled 100% wool felt with acoustic and textural solutions for the wall, floor, and everywhere in between.

FilzFelt combines the German word for felt, Filz, with the English. (Since we're Americans importing German felt, it seems like the right fit!) Our product line includes German-milled 100% Wool Design Felt and felt products for the floor, the walls, and everywhere in between. Plus, we offer full custom fabrication services. FilzFelt was founded in 2008 by two felt-loving designers, Kelly Smith and Traci Roloff, on a little street in the South End of Boston. Kelly had discovered German felt when, while working as an intern architect, she began making laptop bags for coworkers and design-savvy friends. She fell in love with wool felt immediately: it was modern, durable, and vegetarian. She founded Etcetera Media in 2005, manufacturing a line of home goods and personal accessories made from this magical material. Meanwhile across town, Traci worked in corporate interior design and historic preservation but had the itch to strike out on her own. She and Kelly met through a fortuitous t-shirt transaction on Etsy.com and soon an opportunity arose to import and distribute the felt that Kelly had worked with for years. With a few thousand dollars and a very cozy 100-square-foot studio space, Kelly and Traci began their business. Their mission: to bring this previously difficult-to-source material to the masses, specifically the design community. They wore many hats along the way, doing everything from hand cutting samples to receiving shipments to being the customer service department. Kelly and Traci continued to work part-time at other design offices in order to sustain FilzFelt, until 2011 when Knoll, Inc. + Spinneybeck acquired the company. Since then, the business has grown by leaps and bounds. Kelly and Traci continue to maintain integral directorial roles at FilzFelt and are still very much felt sellers at heart. Having come from design backgrounds, they have the knowledge and experience to work with architects, designers, and contractors to provide innovative solutions to common (and uncommon) design challenges.

NEXT Architecture teamed up with Seubert to design a dynamic, modern workspace that captures the company’s identity as a leading insurance organization. Drawing inspiration from Seubert’s bold branding and iconic ‘road’ logo, the team introduced sweeping curves and rounded lighting for a space that feels unified and unmistakably Seubert.

Design 406 from by prolific sculptor Erwin Hauer in white MDF serves as a striking backdrop at the company’s entrance. The cascading curves mirror the brand’s aesthetic with a timeless and sophisticated statement and set a neutral background for the company’s colorful logo. In an adjoining conference space, curves come in the form of Rain. A sunny pop of color in 509 Kamel, combined with the natural texture of wool felt and flowy, on-edge detailing, offers a warm welcome to staff while helping to turn the volume down in a space where larger groups gather.

Renewable, sustainable, green. Yes! All of the above. 100% Wool Design Felt is a non-woven textile made from sheep’s wool, water, and plant-based textile dyes making it biodegradable with the ability to be commercially composted. Plus, the processing of wool requires very little environmental impact compared to other natural fibers or man-made fibers.
