How can I generate fast and accurate construction quotes using software?

Speed and accuracy usually trade off against each other — templates are fast but generic, while fully custom estimates are accurate but slow to build. Software that uses pre-built, customizable assemblies (grouped sets of materials and labor for common tasks) tends to hit both goals: you're not starting from a blank page, but you're also not stuck with a one-size-fits-all number.

Hey,

My company has been developing a construction estimating software for a while now. Well, I finally got it to a spot where it works, and I'd love for a few people I trust to break it before strangers do. It is free to explore and experiment with. It is registered with Microsoft and has been reviewed by their office.

It's called FEQ — Fast Estimating Quotes. A windows only application. You install it, plug in some house info, and it spits out a full itemized estimate in Excel. I just want to know what you think and what trips you up.

One thing: Windows may pop a blue "SmartScreen" warning the first time — that just means it's new software, not that anything's wrong. Hit "More info," then "Run anyway."
