Last month we broke ground with Doudlah Farms Organics on their new processing facility outside Evansville.
If you don't know the Doudlahs yet, you should. They're a fifth- and sixth-generation farm family growing organic beans, popcorn, blue and red cornmeal, and ancient grains. They've spent years helping other farmers go organic too.
Right now, a lot of Midwest organic growers truck their crop to the Dakotas to get it cleaned and packaged. This building fixes that. It will clean, bag and co-pack grain for growers across six states, right here in Rock County. As Lucy put it at the groundbreaking, "This facility isn't just for us."
Every Bachmann project starts with the same question: what do you need it to do? Here, the answer began with a processing and bagging line the Doudlahs engineered themselves. Bachmann Design Group laid out the building around that line: where grain comes in, how it moves through, and where it leaves. Bachmann Construction is now managing the build.
Thanks to State Senator Mark Spreitzer, State Representative Ann Roe, the offices of U.S. Senator Ron Johnson and U.S. Representative Mark Pocan, and everyone who came out. Lucy, Mark, Jason and the whole crew: we’ll see you at opening day next spring.
