A couple garden friends today - the American painted lady caterpillar and the milkweed leaf beetle. Both of these species feed almost exclusively on these native host plants (pussytoes and milkweed, respectively). Plant it and they will come 🌿

Hope everyone is enjoying this absolutely divine weather this weekend 🌤️ Stay tuned as I’m planning to add some open dates to that browsing calendar soon! I’m hoping to have everything in order and open for browsing by next week!

Dang! We aren't even through the first week of the bare root sale being open, and I'm almost out of a couple species! Quantities are limited for some, so don't drag your feet if you're planning to order.

I've intentionally held off on doing a paid FB ad for the bare root order because I'd love for my regular customers and followers to get first dibs 😘 I'll probably try to promote it over the weekend or next week though.

📷 Photo below of one of the monstrous blue cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides) bare root plants from last year's sale. Each species is a little different obviously, but the blue cohosh are continually dressed to impress as bare root!

On the horizon:

Two Ferns is proud to sponsor the upcoming Prairie Enthusiasts' annual conference February 18-20th. It's virtual this year, which is great because you can watch presentations later if you aren't able to attend in real time, and the platform they use is phenomenal in that it has a "community" space where a lot of excellent conversations happen outside of the scheduled talks. https://theprairieenthusiasts.org/tpe-events/2026-conference/

You can also find me volunteering at the Wild Ones Madison booth at the PBS Garden & Green Living Expo Feb. 13-15th. Our chapter has a lot of great events lined up for spring. Stop by and check us out! https://wigardenexpo.com/

Then come March, I'll be volunteering with our Wild Ones chapter on a joint initiative with Dane County Land & Water Resources - the Native Garden Learning Hubs. The Learning Hubs offer a space for community to come together to learn about all things native plantings while networking with other like-minded individuals. Each Hub event offers a different specific focus, but will always have stations for garden design help and general resources available. March's special topic is Gardening for Life and Spring Garden Clean Up. https://lussierheritagecenter.com/Event/Detail/2618
