On August 15th we had our summer club picnic in Verona. There was a good turnout with lots of discussion, friendships and fine food. The club furnished water, hamburgers, hot dogs and lots of dishes brought in by each member. It lasted from 11 am until just about 4 pm.

Saturday, August 15th will be our summer picnic. It will be in Verona, WI and should be a friendly and informative event. All members, families, friends and fellow turners are invited. There is no cost and burgers and dogs with water provided.
We ask each group to bring a dish to pass to round out the menu.

Please respond to bwt.clubexpress.com/ to let us know how many are coming to plan the amount of food.

At the meeting on June 2nd, Dan Greco made a presentation on our website. I will be presenting his in two parts. The first one is for the nonmembers who would go to the site and the second will be the extra features that a member would see.

Even for the non members there is a lot of info and pictures.

On July 4th, I represented the Badger Woodturners at the Shorewood Hills 4th of July Festival. This was my 9th year turning items for the kids who came into the art fair portion. This year I turned Cherry wooden pens with BIC pen cartridges. The pen has to be turned in less than 8 minutes (the attention span of most kids). My Granddaughter, Zoey, did the laser printing of the first name on the pens, then spray painted them and glued a BIC cartridge into the wooden pen.
In 5 1/2 hours we gave away 58 pens to kids, one man from Africa and a Grandmother who had 3 grandkids that were not there.
There were educational displays, featured turnings, display to join the club and a display featuring the Show and Sale next October. Cards on the displays gave you all of the details and even a free raffle ticket if you brought the card to the show in October.

Another part of our June 2nd meeting was "Shop Tips and Tricks". Members showed some of their helpful ideas that each member could use to do a better or easier job of turning in their own shop.

On June 2nd Ron Diamond showed us that we can turn more than just wood and enhance our projects. He uses a material that is called pewter, but it does not include any Lead. It is Britannia alloy. it is 92-93% Tin, 5-6% Antimony and 1-2% Copper. It melts at 478 to 563 degrees Fahrenheit. (Much lower than regular Pewter.) [I found that Britannia is the cheapest from Amazon and if you are a prime member, you do not have to pay shipping.]
So enhance your work with a little flash with pewter.

On June 2nd we had our last meeting before the summer break. We had some very interesting items that members brought in for the Show and Tell. They range from Humming Bird to wood fishing wire sculpture to little people and finally an Ant.

Thanks to the people who follow us on FaceBook. I thought you might like to know the breakdown of who you are. FaceBook does a little data collection and I attached a breakdown from there.
We hope that by sharing our club activities you can get ideas and inspiration to do woodturning that you enjoy.
If there is something that you would like us to include, just let us know.
We also have a web page that is broken down into outside people just visiting and members. Our dues are only $30.00 per year and all of our meeting are streamed on Zoom to members and they have access to all of our past demos.

The Challenge last month was make a top from the demonstration by Rodney Bethel. He showed and critiqued all of the tops that members brought in. There were all types including some with pewter rims to add weight, all colored different colors and one full of hole and when spun you could see the area underneath.
Thanks for all that brought them in. This is what the demos are for. To have members follow the demo and learn a new skill to do what was done in the demo and produce your own.
