P.S. As a licensed arborist, I wanted to share a quick update on a few things I’m seeing around the shoreline that you should be aware of on your property.
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) – Ash trees across New England are being killed by the Emerald Ash Borer—an invasive insect. Symptoms include flaking bark, D-shaped exit holes on the bark, and suckers on the trunk. I’m regularly getting calls for emergency jobs where Ash trees have fallen and created dangerous situations at customers’ homes. Don’t wait until they are too dead to remove safely.
Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) –I’m seeing a significant number of beech trees suffering from beech leaf disease—a new disease that started to appear across CT last year. Attached is a photo I took this week to show you what BLD looks like. If you have a tree with BLD, please call us so we can evaluate the best course of action for the tree.
Beech Bark Disease (BBD) - In addition to BLD, American Beech trees are experiencing beech bark disease. This disease causes cracking of the bark, cankering and decay of limbs and wood. Beech trees can break at the trunk. This can cause a very hazardous situation.
