It’s snowing in Arkansas!!!

Not really. This stuff is called Perlite, it’s an alternative to topsoil when planting or for sod in our case today. It comes from volcanic glass and is usually formed from the hydration of obsidian.

In its dry form it is extremely light and looks and feels like snow (but dry and not cold). When it becomes wet it absorbs and retains moisture very well. The bugs hate it and it compacts very well, way easier than dirt.
