This is the first of many houses that I have drawn plans for in order to raise it above flood height. It is located in the border town of Sumas, Washington which was devastated by 100 year flood waters 2 years ago. The owner is working with FEMA to fund this project.

This house has a very sad story. It is an old craftsmen style house that needed just needed a new kitchen, a master bedroom and a master bathroom. I worked with my clients and we developed a wonderful plan. Then this house was hit by the unprecedented flooding that Whatcom County had last year. This house that had never previously been flooded found itself with 18" of filthy water within it's walls. Thanks to the volunteers of Samaritans Purse this house was worth saving. The building officials required this house to be lifted five feet. My clients used this time to remodel more of their house so we went back to the drawing board. (note that the two bearing walls by the front door were removed and the living room and kitchen were opened up.) The garage had an existing dividing wall removed. The contractor did a great job and this house went from crappy to happy!! I will follow up with this one!

Here is another addition that is currently under construction. This is the Nooksack Animal Hospital and they needed more room for their furry clients. The challenging aspect in this addition is that the original addition was built with concrete tip-up walls and the client want simple roof lines. Note how we planed in perfectly with the existing roof. I follow up after the paint is dry.

I haven't posted for awhile but I couldn't wait for this job to be completed before I show how this addition has changed the look of this house. Rather than just add a pedestrian gable end to the front of this house we created a more interesting front end. What do you think?
