Lumber prices are down! šŸ“‰šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

And right now, we’re seeing something we haven’t seen in about two years — lumber market prices have dropped to their lowest levels in two years. šŸ˜€

This turns into money saved for our customers! If you’ve been thinking about building a deck, fence, porch, or other outdoor project, it’s worth getting a price now and seeing where the numbers are.

Lumber can change quickly, and what costs one amount today might not cost the same a few months from now.

If you’ve been waiting for a better time to build, now is definitely worth a look. šŸ‘€

šŸ’° Why is Trex/Timbertech decking SO expensive?!

It’s not just the boards. šŸ˜…

You’re paying for:
āœ”ļø The composite material
āœ”ļø Hidden fasteners
āœ”ļø Color & finish that stays consistent
āœ”ļø No staining or sealing every few years
āœ”ļø Less maintenance over the life of the deck
āœ”ļø And a product designed to last for decades

That $27 board starts looking a little different when you realize you’re buying years of low maintenance, not just a piece of decking.

Would you pay more upfront for a deck you don’t have to constantly maintain? šŸ‘€

No two projects are ever really the same.

You can give me two homeowners who both say, ā€œI want a 12x16 deck,ā€ and I can almost guarantee those two decks are going to be completely different.

One might be sitting 2 feet off the ground.

The next might be 8 feet up.

One might have a perfectly level yard.

The other might be sitting on a slope overlooking a lake.

One homeowner might want stairs straight out the middle.

Another might want them tucked around the side.

One might want traditional railings.

Another might say, ā€œI don’t want any railing because I don’t want to block my view.ā€

Then you get to the house…

And that’s when the real project starts.

You find a window exactly where you thought a post would go.

The ground isn’t as level as it looked from the pictures.

An old deck isn’t square.

A tree is right where the new stairs need to go.

The house isn’t perfectly straight.

A door sits lower than expected.

Or you find some little detail that changes the way the entire thing needs to be built.

And that’s the part people don’t always see when they look at the finished pictures.

They see the deck.

I see everything that had to happen to get there.

Every measurement.

Every cut.

Every adjustment.

Every board that had to be trimmed just a little differently.

Every time you step back 20 feet and look at something and think, ā€œSomething doesn’t look right.ā€

Then you go back and fix it.

That’s carpentry.

It’s not just taking a pile of lumber and turning it into a deck.

It’s figuring out how to make that particular deck work on that particular house, on that particular piece of property, for that particular homeowner.

And that’s why I always say that custom carpentry is different from buying a product.

A product can be made thousands of times exactly the same way.

A custom project can’t.

Because the next house isn’t the same.

The next yard isn’t the same.

The next customer isn’t the same.

And even the next piece of lumber isn’t the same.

That’s also why two carpenters can look at the exact same project and come up with two completely different ways to build it.

There isn’t always one single way to solve a problem.

Sometimes the job is about knowing what will work.

Sometimes it’s about knowing what will look right.

And sometimes it’s about finding a way to accomplish both.

I’ve had plenty of projects where something that looked like a small detail to someone else ended up taking a lot of thought.

But those little details are often what separate a project that was simply built from one that looks like it belongs there.

That’s the part of this trade I enjoy.

Every job gives you a new problem to solve.

A new layout to figure out.

A new property to work with.

A new idea to turn into something real.

And when you finally stand back and look at the finished project, you know there’s nothing else exactly like it sitting somewhere else.

Because it was built for that home.

That’s why I don’t think you can ever truly say you’ve ā€œbuilt the same thingā€ twice.

You might build another deck.

Another fence.

Another porch.

Another set of stairs.

But you’ll never build that exact project again.

And honestly…

I think that’s what makes being a carpenter pretty special.

Every project has its own challenges.

Every project has its own little details.

And every project has a story.

That’s what custom carpentry is all about.

Final photos of this beautiful 12x16 custom deck overlooking Lake Wateree! 🌊

This project features 7 steps leading down toward the lake, creating an easy and inviting path from the deck to the water.

Also check out the way our guys built this deck around that tree! Pure craftsmanship.

We left off the top railings to keep the view wide open and let the lake be the backdrop. Sometimes the best railing is no railing at all when you have a view like this! šŸ‘Œ
