This image is a labeled diagram illustrating a Soffit with Eave Cross-Section detailing the components of a typical sloped roof overhang where the roof extends past the exterior wall.

🏗️ COMPONENTS OF THE EAVE STRUCTURE
The diagram shows how the roof structure the exterior wall and the finishing elements come together at the eave.

ROOF DECK AND PRIMARY STRUCTURE
* Plywood Sheeting: The structural deck layer attached to the rafters which provides the base for the roofing materials.
* Black Felt Paper: A moisture barrier installed over the plywood sheathing to protect the roof deck from water pe*******on.
* Rafter Tail: The end of the rafter beam which supports the roof deck and creates the overhang.
* Wall Stud: The vertical lumber element that forms the structure of the exterior wall.

EAVE FINISHES AND WATER MANAGEMENT
The eave is the lower edge of the roof that overhangs the wall and its components are crucial for weather protection and drainage.
* Eaves: The general term for the part of the roof that meets or overhangs the walls of a building.
* Soffit: The finished material that covers the underside of the eave. It is typically mounted horizontally to the bottom of the rafter tails.
* Fascia: The vertical board that covers the exposed ends of the rafter tails. It serves as the finishing trim and provides a mounting surface for the gutters.
* Sub-fascia: A structural board (often lumber) installed beneath the main fascia to provide a solid nailing surface for the fascia and soffit.
* Drip Edge: A metal flashing installed along the edge of the roof deck extending slightly over the fascia. Its purpose is to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutter.
* Gutter: A channel usually metal or plastic that collects water running off the roof and directs it away from the building's foundation.
* 2 x 4: A common size of dimensional lumber shown here as a horizontal cleat or framing piece that provides support for the back edge of the soffit material where it meets the wall.
This cross-section clearly defines the terms used for the various elements that create a finished and functional roof edge.
