When it comes to health, what you don't know can hurt you.

Many common health conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and high cholesterol, can develop with few or no symptoms. That's why routine checkups and preventative screenings are so important.

🩺 Why Are Regular Checkups Important?

✅ Help detect health concerns early
✅ Establish a health baseline
✅ Monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and other key indicators
✅ Identify risk factors before they become serious problems
✅ Support long-term health and well-being

📊 What Health Numbers Should You Know?

❤️ Blood pressure
🩸 Blood sugar
💓 Cholesterol levels
⚖️ Weight and BMI
🩺 Age-appropriate health screenings

⚠️ What Can Regular Checkups Help Detect?

* High blood pressure
* Heart disease
* Diabetes
* High cholesterol
* Certain cancers
* Other health concerns before symptoms appear

📅 How Can You Stay on Top of Your Health?

✅ Schedule your annual physical
✅ Don't ignore ongoing symptoms
✅ Follow through on recommended screenings
✅ Discuss concerns with your healthcare provider
✅ Take action before small issues become bigger problems

👷 We can encourage our crews to prioritize preventative care and remind them that taking care of their health is just as important as taking care of the jobsite.

Remember that one appointment could make all the difference. Preventative care isn't just about catching problems, it's about staying healthy enough to keep doing the things that matter most.

When was your last checkup? If it's been a while, consider scheduling one today.

✅ Lean proteins like chicken, turkey, eggs, and Greek yogurt
✅ Fruits and vegetables for essential vitamins and nutrients
✅ Whole grains for sustained energy throughout the day
✅ Nuts, seeds, and protein-rich snacks
✅ Plenty of water to stay hydrated and focused

⚠️ Signs You May Need Better Fuel

Midday energy crashes
Difficulty concentrating
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Frequent hunger
Reduced physical performance
Reliance on caffeine or energy drinks to get through the day

🥪 How Can You Build Better Nutrition Habits?

✅ Pack your lunch the night before
✅ Keep healthy snacks in your truck or lunchbox
✅ Choose water instead of sugary drinks when possible
✅ Look for higher-protein options at convenience stores
✅ Meal prep when you can to make healthy choices easier
✅ Plan ahead for long days on the jobsite

👷 What Can We Do as Field Leaders?

As superintendents, foremen, and field leaders, we can support healthier habits by encouraging crews to take lunch breaks, stay hydrated, and plan ahead with nutritious options that help them perform at their best.

Good nutrition isn't about being perfect, it's about giving your body the fuel it needs to work safely, recover effectively, and stay healthy for the long haul. Looking out for your health today helps ensure you're ready for tomorrow. That's what Men's Health Week is all about. 💪🍎

Construction is built on strength, teamwork, and resilience, but mental health is just as important as physical health.

Long hours, demanding schedules, financial pressures, and balancing work and family responsibilities can take a toll on anyone. Taking care of your mental well-being isn't a sign of weakness; it's an important part of staying healthy, safe, and productive both on and off the jobsite.

🧠 Why Does Mental Health Matter?

✅ Improves focus and decision-making
✅ Supports jobsite safety
✅ Helps manage stress and pressure
✅ Strengthens relationships at work and home
✅ Contributes to overall health and well-being

⚠️ What Can Stress Look Like?

* Fatigue or low energy
* Difficulty concentrating
* Increased irritability
* Feeling overwhelmed
* Changes in mood
* Withdrawing from coworkers, friends, or family
* Trouble sleeping or relaxing

💬 How Can You Manage Stress?

✅ Take short breaks to reset and refocus
✅ Focus on one task at a time
✅ Stay active outside of work
✅ Talk with someone you trust
✅ Prioritize sleep and recovery
✅ Make time for family, friends, and hobbies

We can support each other by checking in regularly, encouraging open conversations, and creating an environment where it's okay to ask for help.

Looking out for each other isn't just good leadership, it's part of taking care of men's health. During Men's Health Week, let's remember that a strong crew starts with strong support, both on and off the jobsite.

As temperatures climb, so does the risk of heat stress and stroke. Know how to prevent it, see the signs and how to manage in a safe and effective way:

How to Prevent Heat Stress

✅ Drink water regularly throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty
✅ Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
✅ Wear lightweight, breathable clothing when possible
✅ Use cooling towels, neck gaiters, or fans
✅ Pace yourself during the hottest parts of the day
✅ Eat regular meals to help replace electrolytes
✅ Acclimate gradually to hot weather, especially early in the season
✅ Watch out for your coworkers and speak up if someone seems unwell

☀️ Watch for these warning signs of heat stress

- Excessive sweating
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Headache
- Muscle cramps
- Fatigue or unusual weakness
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Rapid heartbeat
- Irritability or confusion
- Difficulty concentrating

🚨 Signs of a heat-related emergency (heat stroke):

- Hot, dry skin or stopping sweating
- Confusion, disorientation, or slurred speech
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures
- Body temperature above 103°F (39.4°C)

What to Do If Someone Shows Signs of Heat Stress

1. Move them to a cool, shaded area
2. Give them water if they are alert and able to drink
3. Loosen or remove excess clothing and PPE if safe to do so
4. Cool them with wet towels, ice packs (neck, armpits, etc.), or fans.
5. Stay with them and monitor symptoms

🚨 Call 911 immediately if they become confused, lose consciousness, have seizures, or stop sweating despite the heat. These can be signs of heat stroke, which is a medical emergency.

Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and look out for one another. Looking out for each other on the jobsite is more than safety—it’s health. That’s what Men’s Health Week is all about. 💧☀️

This week is Men’s Health Week, and we’re taking a moment to focus on something that goes beyond the jobsite, our health.

At DS Constructors, we know construction is demanding work. Long days, physical labor, tight schedules, and high expectations come with the job. But taking care of yourself, physically and mentally, is just as important as taking care of the work in front of you.

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing simple, practical topics that matter in our industry, including hydration and heat safety, mental health, nutrition, preventative care, and injury prevention.

💪 The goal is simple:

To encourage small habits that help build stronger, healthier, and safer crews.

Because looking out for yourself and your team isn’t just good practice, it’s part of what makes a strong and safe jobsite.

Stay tuned throughout the week, and join the conversation.

Rain slowed down roofing work at Front Range Community College’s Westminster Campus, but Colorado sure needs it.

With the new EPDM roof in place, we are glad the building is protected while the weather rolls through. Roofing projects always have to work around the forecast, and Superior Roofing, Inc. did a great job helping us stay on schedule despite the rain.

Thanks to the FRCC team and Superior Roofing. We look forward to the next phase, rain or shine.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at DS Constructors!

Today we’re thanking the moms, grandmas, stepmoms, and mother figures who support our families, our crews, and our community every day. Whether they’re managing busy households, helping with homework after long workdays, or cheering us on through early mornings and late nights, we appreciate everything they do.

We hope all the moms out there get some time to relax and enjoy the weekend with family.
