Just lock your car doors, take in anything of value and don’t leave fi****ms in the car. Can’t be any simpler than that.
Community Safety Awareness
Middletown Police have been made aware of a disturbing new trend that we wish to share with our residents.
Individuals roaming Metro Louisville and/or Middletown at night and in the early morning hours, and who are checking vehicle doors to see if they are unlocked, are doing so while armed with fi****ms.
It has also been noted that these groups are most likely driving stolen vehicles and using tactics to reduce their time on scene searching for unlocked vehicles.
We are very concerned that residents may approach these individuals and an escalation in violence may occur.
The best offense in this dangerous trend is a solid defense. First and most importantly, make sure your vehicles are locked and nothing of value is left inside. Common items that are frequently stolen are fi****ms, wallets, purses, and spare keys to other vehicles that are parked nearby. The suspects then use the spare keys to gain access to the other vehicle and then drive away with it.
Another useful tool is the use of surveillance cameras and motion activated security lights. We have received many videos where as soon as the lights come on, or they notice the security cameras, the would-be perpetrators move on to other, easier targets. Don’t be that easy target.
We do not want any of our residents getting hurt while attempting to stop these types of vehicle break-ins and advise that if you observe this type of behavior, DO NOT confront the individuals! Instead, gather as much information about the suspects as you can, including the vehicles they are driving, direction of travel, license plate or any other distinguishable information, and immediately call your local law enforcement agency.
With your help we can make this type of criminal behavior less lucrative and the criminals will have no choice but to seek other forms of employment.
