The best time to think about your windows isn’t after the house is built. It’s while the plans are still on the table.

That’s true for homeowners building from the ground up and for the builders and contractors choosing windows and doors for the homes they’re creating.

This week, that work took us all the way to Warroad, Minnesota, with several of our customers for a visit to Marvin. Seeing where the products are made adds another layer to the product knowledge we bring to new construction projects here in Louisville.

When you’re starting with a set of plans, window size, placement and configuration can shape the natural light, frame a view and change how a room feels. Doors can completely change how spaces connect. Those decisions happen early, but you’ll live with them for years.

And since we made it all the way to northern Minnesota, there was time for a little fishing between all that window talk.

You never know what you’re going to find in our warehouse.

On this particular walk-through, there’s a huge round window, oversized doors, ProVia entry doors, Marvin windows, and patio door systems so large they’ll arrive at the home in pieces and be assembled on site.

And right in the middle of the tour, another truck pulls in with more.

Every piece you see is headed to a Louisville-area home. Some are being built. Others are in the middle of a renovation or finally getting the replacement windows and doors they’ve been planning. Each one is about to look, feel, or live a little differently.

There’s something about a black door on a white background. It just works.

The contrast draws your eye to the architecture, gives the exterior a clean, finished look, and lets the details of the home stand out.

It’s also a good reminder that making an impact doesn’t always require a big change. Sometimes the right entry door, in the right color, is enough to pull everything together and make the whole home feel more welcoming.

Some things in your home frustrate you for so long, you begin to accept them as part of the house.

Ann had one of those frustrations at the bottom of her stairs. When it was time to remodel, she saw an opportunity to make the space work better for her family.

This home had one of the best views in the area. It needed windows that made the view feel like part of the home.

Every window was chosen for the room around it. Casements bring fresh air into the kitchen and laundry room. Stair-stepped windows carry natural light up the winding staircase. Large expanses of glass frame the view from the bedroom and den. Even the smallest upstairs spaces received windows sized and placed with purpose.

The result is a home that looks completely transformed, even though the original footprint remained at its heart.

That Ohio River view is hard to look past. But the work happening around it deserves a closer look too.

Replacing a wall of windows in a finished kitchen is careful work. Cabinets, counters, furniture, lighting, and floors all need to be protected while our installers remove the old windows and work within the existing openings.

The finished Marvin windows fit the home so naturally, they look as though they have always belonged there. That is the goal.
