February is already warm and ready to start working. Restoration season is officially underway.

I am looking to hire two people looking for a rewarding job making old log homes have a second life.

The job entails working on site doing everything from caulking, sanding, rot repairs and staining.

We have enough work for overtime every week of your want it.

When it's getting towards the end of the season and you need to wrap up projects, you do what you need to do. This past weekend, we had two different projects going into the night using large construction lighting. Log rot often is more hidden than you realize. Deteriorated areas will easily be missed if you do not use a sandblaster. I'll use the blaster to get into the tinny checks and really expose a lot of inner rot. This is like needing a root canal for your teeth.

Caulking is probably the most critical part of home maintenance that prevents rot. You should inspect the caulking on your home yearly. If you see any deteriorated caulking, use some color matched matching, and be sure to fix it up. Moisture penetrating under the wood will quickly cause wood decay within a few years.

Replacing these handrails was the last piece to the puzzle on this restoration. We stripped and re-stained this log home last fall, finishing it just in time before winter. This last couple of weeks, we finished up completely re-caulking all of the log walls and replaced all of the log posts and railings. Next week, I'll go back and finish up staining the railings to match.
