🏠 Your crawl space door may be out of sight, but it shouldn’t be out of mind.
A crawl space houses important parts of your home, including plumbing, wiring, and often insulation. A damaged, rotting, or poorly fitted access door can give pests and wildlife an opening into that space.
🐭 Small gaps can create big problems. Mice and rats can squeeze through surprisingly small openings. Larger gaps can allow wildlife to move underneath your home, where animals may damage insulation, chew wiring, and leave droppings behind.
🚪 The frame matters just as much as the door. A sturdy door won’t provide much protection if the surrounding wood is rotten or gaps remain around the edges. A good crawl space door should fit closely, close securely, and hold up to damp conditions.
🔧 Access still needs to be practical. Your crawl space should stay accessible for inspections, pest monitoring, plumbing repairs, and maintenance.
A secure door is one part of protecting your crawl space. Other openings, drainage problems, and excess moisture still need attention—a new door alone won’t solve every issue.
Take a look at yours this week. Is it hanging loose, soft around the edges, missing a latch, or leaving visible gaps? Those are signs it’s time for a closer inspection.
At Tailor Made Pest & Wildlife, we look beyond the pests to identify how they’re getting in.
