🦃 Apparently, I’ve been raising dinosaurs. šŸ˜‚

The Heritage Blue Slate turkey poults I started raising back in early May have officially entered the ā€œHoly cow, look how big you’ve gotten!ā€ stage of life.

These birds have had it pretty good around here—high-protein, non-GMO feed, 24/7 free-ranging, sunshine, bugs, grass, and plenty of room to strut around like they personally own the place.

And of course, they have Bear, my Anatolian Shepherd, standing guard. Because nothing says luxury turkey resort quite like having your own full-time livestock security detail. šŸ˜‚

They’ve grown into some absolutely gorgeous Heritage Blue Slates, and before long they’ll be making their grand appearance on Thanksgiving tables—including mine. šŸ¦ƒšŸ½ļø

šŸ“… Processing date: November 12th

If you want to put a real farm-raised Thanksgiving turkey on your table this year, now is the time to reserve yours!

Just remember…you’re not buying a turkey. You’re buying the bird that has spent six months plotting its escape while I’ve been feeding it. 🤣

🌾 Know your farmer. Reclaim your food.

Dog days of summer. When the outside temperatures reach 100°+ the big dogs come inside. Bear loves the cool quiet basement while Faith loves to lounge inside. She has the funniest positions šŸ˜‚šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Tank always claims his rightful place on my lap 🄰

Life on the farm this afternoon is wonderfully low-key—and sometimes it’s in these quiet moments that I feel God’s presence most clearly. šŸŒæšŸ¦‹

I spent nearly an hour watching a freshly emerged Monarch Butterfly through the living room window as it slowly fanned its wings, gathering strength and hopping from flower head to flower head.

What a beautiful reminder that God’s handiwork is all around us. We can be so busy looking for the big miracles that we miss the small ones happening right outside our window.

Meanwhile, Faith decided her afternoon plans should include lounging on the couch (Bear is in his favorite spot in the basement) instead of keeping one eye open watching the livestock. And honestly…she’s earned it. They both haveā¤ļø

Every night she faithfully protects the large animals while Bear keeps watch over the geese and turkeys in a separate pasture. They each have their purpose, and watching them do what they were created to do is another little reminder of God’s perfect design.

Sometimes God whispers through the simplest things. And today, I am listening. šŸŒ¾šŸ¦‹šŸ¾

30…THIRTY 5x5 ROUND BALES! 🤯🌾

From my little 15 acres of organic pasture! Last year I got 9 bales. NINE. šŸ˜‚

This year I was seriously wondering if I’d have enough hay to get 2 horses and 2 growing calves through the winter. Then God decided to water the pasture Himself…ALL spring and summer. šŸ™šŸ¼šŸŒ§ļø

Of course, the blessing came with a little catch: first-cut hay was delayed forever. But I’ll gladly take a delayed hay season when the reward is 30 beautiful bales sitting in the field! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

I feel incredibly blessed—not just by the hay, but by this life.

Blessed to steward this little piece of creation. Blessed to have the equipment to get the work done.
And most of all, blessed to have a helper.

So today I’m looking at 30 bales of hay and counting my blessings.

Thank You, God, for placing me here. Thank You for the rain, the land, the animals, the hard work, and this wonderful life. šŸ™šŸ¼šŸŒ¾ā¤ļø

Now…if anyone needs me, I’ll be over here admiring my hay like it’s a pile of gold. šŸ˜‚

My weekend farm hand is basically the Pied Piper… except around here, a feed bucket works better than a flute. šŸŖ£šŸ„

The calves come running at full speed the second they hear breakfast is being served.

Meanwhile, I clipped the wings on 32 turkey poults to keep them happily contained in their pasture. I’m so looking forward to my November processing date for these birds. I have to admit, it was WAY easier than clipping goose wings.

Best part? I made it through without getting smacked in the face or earning another black eye. I’ll call that a successful day on the farm! šŸ˜‚šŸ¦ƒ

One of the simple joys of life on the farm. šŸ¦‹

I was thrilled to discover five Monarch caterpillars happily munching away on the milkweed in my high tunnel. Even better, the Tropical Milkweed survived the winter right alongside the Swamp Milkweed.

These little ones grow unbelievably fast! Just yesterday they were tiny, and today they’re chubby little eating machines…5 fat little porkers! šŸ˜‚ The first photo is from yesterday. The rest are from this morning.

Watching God’s creation unfold, one tiny miracle at a time. ā¤ļø

Bear and Tank… the farm’s favorite comedy duo. 🐾🤣

For five years, Bear has taken his job as head of security very seriously. Tank, on the other hand, has taken his job as Bear’s full-time little brother very seriously.

Bear patrols the farm with dignity. Tank patrols Bear’s patience. Bear watches for predators. Tank watches for opportunities to wrestle.

Somehow, the calm old soul and the class clown make the perfect team. Through every chore, every pasture patrol, and every afternoon nap, these two have been inseparable.

They’re more than livestock guardians—they’re brothers… and life on the farm wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining without them. ā¤ļø

My beloved cats, who vanished after their home, my high tunnel, was devastated in April, have returned!!! Kitty came back first several days ago, pretty underweight but alive, followed by Marshmallow today who grabbed my hand affectionately demanding scritches. Clearly he missed me too.

Their survival is a testament to their resilience, and I'm overwhelmed with joy, thanking God for bringing them back home.

I love all my animals, especially my cats. They help protect the veggies and flowers from rodents and in return I get to love them.

Life lately on the farm…

Porter has discovered that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence… and he’s perfecting his best downward-facing dog pose to prove it. šŸ˜‚

Meanwhile, these hens have unanimously decided their nesting box is overrated and have chosen a much more ā€œexclusiveā€ location instead.

Faith is having the time of her life, stopping to admire the native wildflowers almost as much as the geese do. 🌼

The high tunnel continues to come back to life after its major repair and facelift. With every project finished, it’s looking a little more like the productive space it was meant to be.

There is always something to fix, build, or laugh about on the farm… and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

God is good, and life on the farm is pretty great. ā¤ļøšŸŒ¾
