The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a heat advisory for our area. Heat indices are expected over 100 degrees Wednesday through Saturday.

**Louisa County Weekday Cooling Locations**
The following locations offer a place to stop and get cool throughout the summer.
- The Louisa County Department of Human Services (114 Industrial Drive, Louisa, VA) will offer comfort areas during regular business hours (8:30am-5pm).
- Louisa County Parks, Recreation & Tourism will have an area designated for cooling at the Betty Queen Center (522 Industrial Dr, Louisa, VA) separate from the pool area during regular business hours.
- The Louisa County Library (881 Davis Hwy, Mineral) will also serve as a location to cool down during their hours of operation, Monday and Tuesday 10am - 7pm, Wednesday and Thursday 10am -6pm, Friday and Saturday 10am - 5pm.
Note, the Department of Health's and the Betty Queen Center's business hours will be impacted by the holiday, with a closure on Friday, July 3rd. The Louisa County Library will serve as a cooling center on Thursday and Friday during normal hours.

**Caution in Extreme Heat**
People aged 65 years and older, children, and those with chronic medical conditions are particularly at risk of heat-related illness. Please follow guidelines for extreme heat, including:
- Find air conditioning.
- Avoid strenuous activities.
- Watch for heat illness.
- Wear light clothing.
- Check on family members and neighbors.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
- Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

**Cooling & Warming Center Partners Needed**
Louisa County is seeking area partners to serve as cooling and/or warming centers during times of extreme weather. These centers will offer community members, including those particularly vulnerable to the impacts of severe low and high temperatures, temporary shelter in a climate-controlled area. Timeframes a center will be open will be dictated by the participating area partner. If you represent a church or other organization interested in being contacted when cooling or warming centers are needed, please contact us [email protected]. https://alrt.se/u/6AADc6sggbA

Opening Day is here, and Wayne's HVAC couldn't be prouder to support the Tigers P*e Wee team with Louisa Little League.
Seeing these young players out on the field reminds us what community is all about-encouragement, growth, and having fun.
Wishing all the players a great season.

What To Do With Your Heat Pump During an Ice or Snow Storm

If we get heavy freezing rain or significant snowfall, it’s a good idea to switch your heat pump to Emergency Heat temporarily—but only during the worst part of the storm.

Why?
When ice builds up on the outdoor unit faster than the defrost cycle can melt it, the system can get damaged. Emergency Heat keeps the outdoor unit from running so it can’t freeze over or strain itself.

What To do?
• Switch to Emergency Heat if the outdoor unit is icing up during heavy snow or freezing rain.
• Once the storm ends and temps are back above freezing, you should verify equipment is free of ice and debris. Once this has been checked you can switch back to normal heat operation.
• If you choose to cover the outdoor unit, only do it while the system is OFF. Remove the cover before switching out of Emergency Heat so airflow is never blocked.

We’re here to help everyone get through the storm safely and comfortably. Please keep the comments helpful and respectful.
