This home is under construction, and as we complete the interior framing details, we are getting more and more excited about how it is coming together.

Some weeks it rains, others we wait for trusses - and then some weeks everything aligns and good people do great things. This was one of those weeks!

Floating shelves look good. Floating shelves with the right lighting? Completely different level. ✨
At Skyroot Developments, here's how we build ours:
We use stained maple plywood and cut a recessed channel into the shelf — deeper on the top side, shallower on the bottom. A lens sits flush on top so bottles stand flat with no bump. On the underside, the lens protrudes slightly so light throws wider across the countertop below.
A metal track finishes the underside clean. The result looks beautiful from every angle — and you'd never know the engineering behind it.
This is what custom details actually look like.

Why does your custom home take longer than expected? Here's the honest answer. 🏗️
1. Permits
Grading plans, architectural guideline approvals, city approvals — getting through the system alone can cost you months before a single shovel hits the ground.
2. Weather
Start at the wrong time of year and rain turns your site into a mud hole. One bad season can wipe a month off your schedule instantly.
3. Changes during construction
Think of your build schedule like a train — every trade is a car in sequence. One change stops the whole train. Reschedule the painter and you might wait two weeks. Tile isn't ready when the tile guy shows up and the whole platform shifts.
4. Scope additions
When customers see the build taking shape and want to add things — it compounds all of the above.
No fluff. Just what building custom actually looks like.

At Skyroot, we design the home around the windows. ☀️
Every home we build is oriented around how the sun moves — where morning light lands, where afternoon light comes through, and which rooms deserve to capture it most. Big windows, high ceilings, positioned intentionally. Here's the thing: this can't be fixed later. It has to be decided at the planning and drawing stage — or you lose it forever. That's what custom building actually means.📍 Custom Home Builder | Knoxville, TN

LVP flooring on stairs is one of the trickiest details to get right — and most builders skip the hard part. 🪜
The standard approach uses a separate nosing that protrudes above the tread. It's a trip hazard, and it never looks as clean as hardwood.
At Skyroot, we router a semicircular groove into the LVP itself, heat it, and bend it over a custom nosing — then wrap the front with a solid wood piece. The result? A stairwell that looks completely seamless, like your floor just flows up the stairs.
And that corner? It's the highest-wear point on any stair. We engineer it to be far more durable than the standard install.
