Floating shelves look good. Floating shelves with the right lighting? Completely different level. ✨
At Skyroot Developments, here's how we build ours:
We use stained maple plywood and cut a recessed channel into the shelf — deeper on the top side, shallower on the bottom. A lens sits flush on top so bottles stand flat with no bump. On the underside, the lens protrudes slightly so light throws wider across the countertop below.
A metal track finishes the underside clean. The result looks beautiful from every angle — and you'd never know the engineering behind it.

LVP flooring on stairs is one of the trickiest details to get right — and most builders skip the hard part. 🪜
The standard approach uses a separate nosing that protrudes above the tread. It's a trip hazard, and it never looks as clean as hardwood.
At Skyroot, we router a semicircular groove into the LVP itself, heat it, and bend it over a custom nosing — then wrap the front with a solid wood piece. The result? A stairwell that looks completely seamless, like your floor just flows up the stairs.
And that corner? It's the highest-wear point on any stair. We engineer it to be far more durable than the standard install.
