Good morning Albuquerque!

It’s that time of year again in Albuquerque! 🎈

The balloons are starting to fill our skies, and there’s nothing quite like seeing them overhead on a beautiful New Mexico morning.

We’re looking forward to another Balloon Fiesta season!

A water-wise landscape doesn’t have to mean a yard full of gravel.

Good xeriscape design is about combining plants, stone, texture, color and structure to create a landscape that feels intentional—and fits our New Mexico climate.

This landscape uses large boulders, river rock, ornamental grasses, agaves and other drought-tolerant plants to create interest without relying on a traditional lawn. The dry creek bed adds another layer of texture and gives the landscape a natural Southwestern feel.

Thinking about refreshing your yard or finally getting started on a landscape project you’ve been putting off?

Our design team can help you explore the possibilities and turn those ideas into a plan.

Have you ever noticed that lantana flowers change color as they age?

What looks like one flower is actually a cluster of many tiny tubular flowers, opening a few at a time. As the individual flowers mature, their color changes — creating those incredible combinations of orange, red and magenta within a single flower cluster.

Lantana (Lantana camara and its hybrids) loves heat and sun, blooms for a long season, and is a favorite of butterflies and other pollinators.

Sometimes the most interesting things in a landscape are hiding in plain sight. Take a closer look next time you see one.

Pavers don’t always need to be replaced when they become uneven.

Tree roots had disturbed the original setting of this patio, leaving areas uneven and out of alignment. We’re lifting the existing pavers, removing the offending roots, correcting the base, and resetting the pavers to restore a smooth, usable surface.

A good example of how an existing landscape can often be repaired rather than replaced.

A little work in progress this morning.

Our construction crew is laying a new red flagstone patio and walkway, fitting each stone individually to create a natural pattern and work cleanly around the existing home and landscape.

There’s a lot of cutting, fitting and adjusting that goes into making something look like it belongs there when it’s finished.

Looking forward to seeing this one come together!

Common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is hard to miss this time of year.

That towering flower stalk can reach several feet tall, but take a closer look and it’s actually covered with hundreds of small yellow flowers that open a few at a time.

Mullein is a biennial, its first year is spent as a low rosette of those unmistakable soft, fuzzy leaves, and in its second year it sends up this huge flower spike, produces seed, and dies.

It’s an introduced plant in New Mexico and can be weedy, especially in disturbed areas, but it’s certainly an interesting one to photograph when the morning light catches all those fuzzy buds.
