Hi everyone, it’s been a hot minute! I’m here with very exciting news that the London Street Garden that myself and (Friends of London Street) have been diligently working on, is finally coming to fruition! We’ve secured a few grants for this community lead project, but of course, we need some help with the final costs to make this project a reality and ACTUALLY build it! Our plans have been approved by and so the final step is reaching out to the community to see if anyone has the interest in donating a few dollars to our Native garden project. This space is going to be for everyone and fill the green space gap for Region 2 of Silver Lake, which, as you may know is near and dear to both of our hearts. We thank you for sharing, donating or liking our project and hope that there will be many questions and discoveries about it in the future! LINK IN BIO 🙏🏻🌱🤎

A walk to the let me find a bunch of beautiful poinsettia trees! The story of the poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) has a cinematic rags to riches story…its origins partly here in Hollywood. In 1900, Albert Ecke destined to become the patriarch of the poinsettia industry was on his way from Germany to Fiji with plans to open a health spa. Stopping along the way in Los Angeles, he took such a liking to the area that he decided to settle in Eagle Rock, where he became a dairy farmer, and planted an orchard. Ecke noticed the popularity of the poinsettia plant - its bright, scarlet bracts so he started selling it on street corners. He would soon plant 5 acres of poinsettias in Hollywood and began shipping the colorful stems cross country during the Christmas season. Naturally, the plant is a native of central Mexico, and extends into South America. The large red things on the plant aren’t petals. They’re modified leaves called bracts. In poinsettia plants and euphorbia in general, each cluster of flowers produces one female flower in the center and many male flowers surrounding it, so both female and male flowers are on their own stalks. What a delightful, showy, perennial party! Going further,
Aztec people use the plant to produce red dye and as an antipyretic medication. In Aztec language, it’s called “CUETLAXOCHITL” meaning flower that grows in residues or soil.Today it’s known in Mexico and Guatemala as flor de nochebuena, or Noche Buena, meaning Christmas Eve flower. In Chile and Peru, the plant is known as the “crown of the Andes” (wiki) 🎁🎄✨

Back online after a communication breakdown! I’ve been traveling a bit and have been blessed to work on the East Coast for my brothers roofing company, I’ve missed my family incredibly, mis chicas son mi vida! I’m still working in landscaping, got my CA Native Plant Landscaper certification from (highly recommend going there) and hope to have more before/after photos of some beautiful homes soon. The transformation is incredible! So excited to share with you, my very talented friend is going to help me with the photos this project😎 stay tuned!

Some other things in the works…the London Street Gardens project in Silver Lake is making headway thanks to and other fellow community members, annnnd the is looking for organizers/volunteers to help with socials! The group is going to start meeting more regularly with the hopes of growing as much as the other trash clubs. First step, we secured the handle!

That’s my update and I’m sticking to it. Have a great weekend!🍄🌾🐿️🎃
