Lower levels are often the last space considered. Here, it was designed as a destination. The lounge opens to views of the backyard and the mountains beyond.

A dark stone fireplace establishes the room's center of gravity, and dark wood cabinetry continues that same material on either side. This resolves the fireplace into the millwork rather than isolating it as a separate feature.

Hollywood Canyon Home /// Wood, stone, and steel settle into a quiet balance, with water moving through the composition as both function and texture. When selecting a color palette and materials for a home, we often start by looking at the surrounding landscape.

Set in Nichols Canyon above Hollywood, the Hollywood Canyon home is embraced by trees and softened by natural light. Inside, that quiet atmosphere continues with light maple floors and ceilings paired with crisp white plaster walls. Pivot sliding doors with diffusing sidelights open the living spaces to surrounding eucalyptus trees, so the house breathes easily and the day moves from inside to out.⁠
